The report "arrived late"? What the gently caress does that even mean? Is the statute of limitations measured in hours for this kind of harassment? I guess whatever administrator that handled the report got the assignment late in the afternoon and just went "meh" and immediately shut down the investigation in order to leave early.

In Denmark all the politicians are falling over each other to say how we should all start saving for our old age, because the state won’t be able to care for us, bur we’ve basically never had more money in Denmark than we do right now? The economy has completely recovered from the doubleslam of Covid and Putin, except for some slight lagging inflation. The various demographic challenges are increasing but current our 20 year path looking extremely promising, even if it all hinges on gradually delaying retirement age.

the amount of resources the state is able to marshal decreases as its tax base becomes ever more concentrated on wealthy companies and individuals which are intensely mobile. additionally, investment will tend to dry up quickly as political risk increases if the state tries to do anything about this. i don't think that the trajectory is wrong; the scandinavian welfare societies seems quite doomed in the medium-long term. this stuff, however, is probably also an attempt at preparing public opinion for some incredibly unpopular retirement reforms. the big post-war generation is well into retiring en masse now anyway and are eventually going to start dying off in serious numbers. we're a ways into the demographic squeeze here. it's going to get a little more unbalanced, but immigration is probably going to compensate for a fair amount of it. the main thing imo is the increasing share of the economy controlled by entities which can trivially just up and leave if they don't like the conditions, i.e. if the state tries to recouperate significant value from them

So, considering that the third Statsråd from the current government here in Norway just got done for not recusing themselves/doing shady poo poo, I think this just got really, really relevant again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENXXRCkJVNw ( For those keeping score, that's three people getting caught out doing unethical stuff, and two now out of government. )

if nothing new comes out about brenna i think she survives on having self-reported on her case and it apparently being a one-off. it's much easier to excuse one lapse of judgement, especially in appointment processes which are often a little grey, than systematic arrogance of the trettebergstuen variety or straight-up insider trading what gets me about trettebergstuen and borten moe is that what they were doing is not especially difficult to do while maintaining plausible deniability. they just didn't bother with keeping even a finger's length between themselves and the incredibly dodgy decisions they were making, which indicates that they sincerely believed that they weren't doing anything wrong or even reproachable. that in turn indicates that there's a pretty deep cultural affliction in our political class, especially taken on top of the reiseregning-affair and the commuter residence affair. this is the sort of thing about which rødt would normally make hay, but bjørnar moxnes just completely torpedoed any possibility of doing that

It's just such a stupid thing to do. Why the gently caress would you steal sunglasses of all things? They're, at best, nice to have, not need to have. Stealing food or other stuff you need if you're poor, sure, I never would see that happen, but he's supposedly able to buy them himself and also under scrutiny from being a public figure.

yeah it's an insanely bone-headed move. it is worth noting that Rødt has a fairly significant party tax which cuts his wage as a parliamentarian from about a million kroner to around 600 000, but he can still afford sunglasses. the sunglasses being a silly (brand-name!) luxury item and the fact that he didn't realise that the press knew practically everything from the start and so got chased from lie to lie trying to live it down meant that he was seriously compromised by the end of it - and, worse, that he'd gotten the whole party to vouch for him on what turned out to be incorrect grounds. when he finally resigned, i don't think anyone in the party thought it was an unreasonable decision even if very few people really thought that the affair itself was worth a vote of no confidence. it's a sword to fall on, not one which gets wielded against the guy who basically created the party as it exists today

seems like it’ll work out nicely, they’ve got one of the few non-dipshits as a current party leader, and nobody wants to challenge her on it
