This is very much a YMMV statement but at my first job I knew I was leaving after I got married so I gave like 2 months notice and it ruled. I wasn't assigned any new long term work so basically spend 2 weeks buttoning up all my open work and then just hosed off for 6 weeks.

In Denmark, the default is a month's notice for quitting and like 3 for getting fired. If you're getting fired, that's paid vacation time basically or double pay if you get something else. If you quit, you're expected to tie up ends and do a bare minimum basically, so it's extremely good. And because that's how it works, every employer expects a month delay from signing the contract to the start of work.

This is obviously for office jobs, I don't know about construction and other real stuff, I assume it's worse
