Snowglobe of Doom posted:My brother works for a transportation company and had a similar problem with a newly constructed supermarket which had a ramp down to the unloading dock but they couldn't tell him what the roof clearance was, so it was unclear whether a semi trailer could actually fit down there. They actually requested he "just get one of your semis to back down there and see if it fits" and were pretty miffed when he lmaoed at that suggestion Going out there with a measuring tape is just a single low-n unblinded study It's not the gold standard of The Science unless you tell a randomly selected group of truckers to show up and unload something at that dock, five or ten times, then get a hand-picked group of supermarket experts from ivies to read those studies, assign weights to each one depending on how much they like the authors, and then write their own paper that says the evidence that the influence of the dock overhead clearance at that krogers on semi trucks getting damaged is mixed

NeonPunk posted:Listen to your doctor would be a good advice if healthcare wasn't so hosed up. It's awfully privileged to say that, like does everyone have a personal doctor on their speed dial lmao Sure. I happen to be ludicrously privileged in the medical care department. I was more intimating that "listen to your doctor" applies equally to people posting anywhere about this. Even if you are a doctor you aren't my doctor and I don't really have any way of vetting you, nor do the staff really - so I resent the implication I need "protection." It's more of a general thing though - like taking up the responsibility of trying to ensure only good advise is given on the forums seems like a path towards madness. We've always been rough and tumble on the trust and safety side.

Listen to your doctor, not goons. Also, your continued masking and avoiding eating inside at restaurants is a sign of mental illness and you should go live your life.

Rick posted:Anyone here do trucking? In my imagination you could stay pretty covid safe despite all the driving around but maybe I'm missing something. I used to be a truck broker, so I have adjacent level knowledge. Unless you are able to get a home every night type trucking job, your showering locations will be truck stops where you'd be rolling the dice on shared air. Otherwise you should be able to mask up for the times you need to go into facilities. As some others have posted it's likely that you'd encounter a lot of negativity around masking which is something to keep in mind. For an in person job you certainly would be around other people for a low percentage of time, but it's also a tough job on your health from all the hours sitting driving and the difficulty of getting and eating healthy food on the road.

Since I was invited to participate in this thread and since the OP was said to be rewritten to be more accurate, I just wanted to point out:quote:with Paxlovid you'll be taking repurposed AIDS medication--this is all not-loving-around-with medication. This is partially wrong in a few different ways. Paxlovid combines the drugs nirmatrelvir and ritonavir. Nirmatrelvir is a wholly new drug that was developed in 2020 specifically for treating COVID-19. Ritonavir, aka Norvir, is a medication for treating/managing HIV infection which causes AIDS. I know it's common to confuse HIV and AIDS but they are in fact different things. HIV is the virus that is treated and AIDS is the disease than manifests if HIV is left untreated. Many people are given ritonavir who do not, and will never, have AIDS. A better wording of this sentence for clarity that more accurately describes Paxlovid would be: quote:with Paxlovid you'll be taking an effective combination drug that includes two antivirals, including one that was developed for the treatment of HIV--this medication does not gently caress around.
