Amongst other things, there is a SAD thread which naturally invites more scrutiny and occasionally new posters. The answer is not to lash out at real or imaginary posting enemies but to post normally, report anything you find egregious, and put anyone you find especially annoying on ignore if they bother you that much.

So...pre long-covid I played roller derby. I was really quite good at it. I started getting nervous about Covid in February and we had a tournament coming up in March. I started posting about how we maybe want to cancel because of covid. Everyone thought I was a moron. Everyone bought airfare and hotels. Event was canceled the week before due to everything shutting down.

Its possible, that is a known (rare) side effect, especially for younger men. Its one for Novavax too. Speaking of which Novavax booster press release just dropped stating it shows neutralizing antibodies towards EG5.1 and XBB 1.16.6 (in mice and monkeys).

Lib and let die posted:i'm going to make a very blanket statement here as a former restaurant worker: You know, I gotta ask, why do we field these sorts of complaints, as a community? Like why is this sentiment so common here? What difference does it make if you spend extra time accommodating somebody's needs? Why do we accept the automatic assumption that this is what people do instead of operating on the assumption that a genuine need exists? When I hear restaurant workers complain about this kind of thing it lands with me exactly the same way as people complaining about handicapped spaces and welfare queens, it's born from a lovely and judgmental way of thinking that assumes the worst of people and that because some people are undeserving the needy shouldn't be helped An accommodating society for the disabled and people with medical conditions is a society where we keep these kinds of opinions out of our brain to begin with, let alone voice them publicly Engorged Pedipalps has issued a correction as of 17:58 on Aug 22, 2023 |

Engorged Pedipalps posted:You know, I gotta ask, why do we field these sorts of complaints, as a society? If you actually bothered to read my follow up post on this, you would see that when asked, I have taken very dedicated steps to accommodate for food allergies. I even understand that some people can eat raw but not cooked versions of the same allergen and vice-versa - to be clear, I take food allergies very seriously, because cooking is an artistic expression for me and if someone can't enjoy something I've made then I get a little sad about that. I will take those extra steps every single time. Do not order the frutti di mar and state that you are allergic to shellfish if you just don't like shellfish. The implication in doing so is that your server or kitchen staff are too stupid/careless to follow a simple "no x" modifier so you have to really make sure they remember it by making it about more than a personal preference.

I make a lot of special orders for non allergy reasons 1. If you get asked it's a lot easier to just say it's an allergy instead of explaining, for example, you have a genetic intolerance to a specific type of food and eating it ruins everything it touches. (See: people who hate cilantro, wasabi and cucumber) 2. My failure rate on asking for special accommodations is significantly higher than 30% Restaurant workers don't loving care. I understand why they don't loving care. I don't even resent them for it. But I think they should keep their intrusive thoughts about their customers' underlying health conditions to themselves. Frankly I think the onus is on the consumer to simply not get food that has stuff in it they knowingly can't eat and expecting restaurants to surgically remove some of their own ribs to accommodate. Like, just order something else?

A person with an allergy or food intolerance is asked to never eat at a restaurant
