Allergens aren't bacteria

You can't kill them with heat

Peanut oil is safe because the compound that's allergenic is in the peanut solids

this is not true and not taught in any food handler program

gently caress, my bit was ruined by genuinely not knowing anything about food allergens. This is almost as embarrassing as being a doctor and knowingly taking a hot shower while dehydrated with a viral illness and subsequently passing out and almost dying from head trauma.

Anyway I'm a doctor so you need to listen to me about food allergen they are all eliminated in high heat just tell your chef to cook everything hotter and you will be safe.

dont worry restaurants take allergies very seriously

All I can say is my kitchen absolutely did. We not only took the standard safety steps of having separate fryers for separate things (chicken/wings in one, fried fish/calamari/scallops in another, and a dedicated clam fryer, we had a fryer in the back kitchen that I would fill and fire up just for the purposes of cooking fish in it if someone reported a shellfish allergy.

Also if it's not obvious I've worked both front and back of house so I'm drawing on experiences having done both

Summer Flu really tearing through my coworkers now that school is back. I’ve casually suggested Paxlovid to a few of them that mentioned being sick and either get “oh, it’s not COVID” or total confusion because they’ve never heard of the medication and probably think I’m insane. Mind you, they all acknowledge COVID’s continued existence, so I’m not sure why the refusal to mitigate its long term risks.

why won’t they use the tools :saddowns:

I'm gonna pro-post by skipping a bunch of pages, but I did see lasko is selling a fan+filter combo now. Which gets around the whole "mad scientist created this" duct-taped look, or the "holy poo poo why are you still running hepa filters in here, the pandemic is over dumbass!" This can just be passed off as "goddamn its hot/humid in here, trying to get some air moving". Should put a MERV13+ into it instead of the filter it comes with.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089P1Z38J

Sure, it's not gonna filter 100% of the room immediately, but it is way better than nothing. I'm pondering trying to donate some of these to our school, because I think all the hepa filters came out this year. Anyways, good luck to us all in getting way sick as few times as possible this year.

it's very weird seeing posts like this, as a person that still occasionally watches broadcast TV.

"If it's COVID, paxlovid" is an incredibly common refrain in pharma commercials.

but yeah even if they see those they just say 'its not covid' because the emergency is over. Also all the tests are expired. Also the latest variants don't show up on the ones that aren't until several days into symptoms.

Are you talking about what I replied to or the peanut oil thing?

Peanut oil is pretty well known to not trigger allergies in most people who have peanut allergies because they're allergic to the protein in peanuts which isn't present in a highly refined peanut oil. (Source, peanutallergyfacts.org, WebMD)

That doesn't mean there are absolutely no people with peanut oil allergies or that you should go whole hog with peanut oil if you have an allergy or suspect someone has an allergy.
