so petco is offering free same-day delivery if you buy poo poo. so I needed a couple things and I put them in my cart and one of the three was not available at my local shop but was at the one in the next city, ~15min away. however it did show it was available for free delivery yesterday evening so I went with that option… “all same day deliveries are routed through door dash. would you like to leave a tip” of $8-10? they were going to make some dude drive all the way out there then all the way to me for…hell does anyone know how much an average door dash order pays sans tip?! absolute fucks

Door Dash split the order between 2 drivers, The guy who picked up my 60 pounds of salt got 5 and the guy who picked up a filter sponge got 5.

If you're paid dick all, why would you provide incredible service? People take pride in their work proportionate to how they're treated and a large part of that is compensation. If they were paid enough that working service wasn't sneered at by the public, which has happened to most service jobs, especially low level uniformed ones, since the 60's, you might get the service you want. Americans in particular seem to think that people who have to wear uniforms to work and serve others are beneath them. That doesn't inspire wanting to idk make their dining experience exceptional. They are telling you this, sector wide, by demanding more tips - they're asking to be paid more to provide the service people expect. Good. Well-paid waiters, say at private clubs, provide exceptional service because they can made a middle class living doing it.
