Oh, I forgot! The Hot Wheels Legends Tour came through my neck of the woods again on Saturday, this time in North Richland Hills, about 13 miles from my house. I'd missed that it was happening, but a buddy noted it on Wednesday and asked if I was going. Thanks, buddy! I'd have been mighty pissed if I'd missed it. Whether actually stared cooling down, finally. It was a high of 95, but only 89 by noon, when the show ended. Cold front came through on Sunday, and it's supposed to be in the low 80sF tomorrow (Tuesday.) Might be able to get something done on the RX-7 after it stops raining from the front. Back to the Hot Wheels Legends show. Here are the links to the full galleries: https://imgur.com/a/4i0aPAA https://imgur.com/a/oAOZ5g8 https://imgur.com/a/3VPWc8A I'll only post a few photos here. Let me know if you have questions or want details - I'll try and answer. Shopping cart! It's actually a '98-ish GMC pickup or Tahoe. Seemed pretty well built Galant VR4 I actually pictured this one before, when it came to our RX-7 club meetup. N600: Literally half of it is engine... Incredibly clean Pantera: I wish I could've heard what that exhaust sounded like. Really neat Kustom truck. Welder on the back was Kustom as well. This '51-53 Chevy was decked out in Impala and Caddy parts: Clean '55: I especially like the Halibrand front wheels that look like spindle-mounts, but aren't: This is a Miata: Off-road-y Smart FourTwo: Very Clean Conquest: ...with a Starion steering wheel. He said it was a stock mechanically as he could keep it. Just the custom paint and upholstery. Full Mazdaspeed FD RX-7: This one was cool: Early '70s Toyota Crown Coupe. I thought it was a JDM import, but: Wikipedia confirms that there were indeed US models, '71 and '72 only. No more Crowns in the US until we got this bloated thing this year: Actually saw one for the first time while out eating on Friday night. Blech. Looks like it should be some sort of advanced EV or hybrid, but it's just... that. It *is* based on the Mirai chassis (which is an abomination itself, visually.) Anyway, back to cool stuff. Mattel brought the same cars they have the last couple times - Deora II, Skull Rod (back in it's original black with flames and American Racing wheels form - it was "trad" last time,) the gold Stingray, the orange COPO Camaro (which I noticed is serial number 001 this time!) Twin Mill, and their R35 GTR. Check out this classic shag van: Turbo Caravan: Very DIY: BIG hot rod: Jeep rod: (and a repop Anglia behind it.) Commitment to a theme: Lots more in the galleries! All the cars get driven, and they have a full-time staff of experienced mechanics who will be more than happy to explain anything you see while you are there. Pictures don't quite convey the size of the things, and how low to the ground they are. Not a big car, compared to an American vehicle of the same time period, but long, narrow, and low. Their's are very well restored. The quality of the interior is very high and the paint is really good. You can tell they were hand built in places. If you get lucky, you might even hear them run. Very raspy.

Hadlock posted:I believe that Pantera has this custom intake manifold The Pantera was very cheap, used, in Europe for a good amount of time. A couple of friends in the village next to my dad's bought one in maybe '78 or so. You could hear it start up in the morning from where my dad lived. You wouldn't hear it for long, because it drank down so much gas! Whooom, whomp, whomp, whomp, RRRRRRRRR, RRRRRRRRR, RRRRRRR, screetch into the gas station, and then repeat the process driving it back to the barn. My uncle's brother used to service the thing before he bought the mechanic's there. The American bits were simple, if a bit hard to find parts for locally. The Italian bits got replaced as soon as possible. Pepé (my uncle's brother) is a whole story unto himself. A motorhead back in Czechoslovakia, moving to Germany opened up a whole 'nother world of opportunity for him. Starting as an apprentice in the village shop, he became a diesel technician, working on big trucks, until he came back to the village and bought the shop he used to work at. That turned into a car-flipping business (as you do), and eventually a Mazda dealership. In the mean time, Pepé would shuttle cars back and forth between East and West. Pepé and my uncle got a fastback VW restored to better than stock, then decided to drive it to the seller on the D/CZ border. On the way, Pepé fell asleep at the worst possible time and they both woke up to the car being chewed up by the tracks of a Leopard 1. The driver was able to stop the tank right before it crushed the passenger compartment, but the guys both agreed to use a transprt company for long drives after that Some neat trades that were our family's cars: an 300SEL race car that became my uncle's family car after being repaired following a crash, and the 190E Evo 2 that replaced it. While the Evo was wrecked, the 300SEL got bought by a guy in Dinkelsbühl who still has it. Rotary Mazdas everywhere in the lot, but none of them running. He knew better than to build up an RX and sell it locally. Somehow, they all went to Yugoslavia and places??? Pepé didn't have so much of a drinking problem as a not stopping drinking problem. So of course he became part of the local festival, where the walled town gets closed off and people dress up in 100 Years War garb and reenact the siege of the town. Why? Because being the town guardsman ment every Gasthaus gave him a beer while he was "on patrol". That lasted ten years before they fired him. Fired him for passing out in front of a bunch of tourists, with his pike between his legs like a giant, pointy cock. I like Pepé. He's a good dude with a wealth of hard won knowledge and a good sense of humor. Bohemian to the core.
