The default hotkey is enter but it's...also kind of weird. I feel like I usually have to hit it twice to be able to actually start typing. And then it kind of just blends in with the call outs and "player x picked up key card" stuff on the left so I kind of can't blame people for missing it.

How exactly do you get skill points? I just gained two levels but didn’t get any points. I’m level 12 but I only have five so it can’t be one every two levels.

e: I'm not really sure but I think it's 1 every 3 levels, +1 to start with and maybe some bonuses along the way. I'm level 9 with 4 skill points.

I've played a single solo match so far, but it looks like the match making fuckery is effecting that as well since you have to match make via friends or invite only. Weird.

So how did this happen? This is not really Starbreeze's first rodeo. Publisher meddling? They ran out of money? Cross-platform fuckery? Or maybe launching an online game is just really hard nowadays. Was somewhat looking forward to it since I got a month of free game pass and reconnected with some friends. Finger crossed the server will be fixed during the weekend.

It's pretty dope.
The game appears to be very low budget all around. It was probably made in 12-18 months.

I managed to get one game in tonight, game's kind of a stuttery mess for me. I don't remember it being quite this bad in the beta. The XP system is bonkers dumb, sure is fun seeing 0XP earned after a successful heist because we didn't do any challenges.

I could see this going the way of Darktide for myself and my friends in that we'll still probably put some time into this but the whole time we'll be yearning for a better, more expanded game that may or may not come some day. And then just like darktide we'll get sick of the content after a week and never come back to it again lol.

Oh, All-Knowing One, behold me!
I kinda checked out on Starbreeze after their TWD game blew up and they gave Bo Andsersson the boot, and didn't keep up with Payday 2 after they restarted it - Can they afford to have a launch with such lackluster reception due to bugs? Is the actual game fun, compared to Payday 2 anytime between Big Bank and the white house?

deep dish peat moss
Jul 27, 2006

It's been a long time since I've played it (only around launch) but I remember liking Payday 2 more than this. It's not bad, but I'm not sure what's even improved in this one. The specials are less discernable at a glance than they were in Payday 2 and the mission design hasn't been particularly impressive, I've done 4 different heists and they were all pretty short single-objective things. Something feels a little off about the shooting gameplay overall but I can't put my finger on it.

And the Overkill Weapon system is kind of dumb - there are only two Overkill Weapons: a grenade launcher and a heavy sniper rifle. The sniper unlocks at level 40 which is going to take a fair while, and the grenade launcher has such absurd splash range on its shots that you'll blow yourself up trying to fight at midrange with it. Every time I've tried using it I killed myself at least twice.

e: Also I couldn't have been right earlier about skill points coming from levels - I just went from 4 to 5 skill points while remaining level 11.

Took this opportunity to catch up on whatever happened to Payday 2 and jeeeez. I stopped playing right after Big Bank, I remember at launch wondering if there was a secret to be found with the fleur de lis. Crazy that's the direction they eventually went with things.

I got in a few matches and found it good, classic Payday fun. There's some issues, but if they didn't gently caress up the launch this badly they probably woulda had a success on their hands.

As it stands, it's about to dip below 30% on Steam

I will say this: Being able to jump in as a new player with other people also just figuring things out as they go is way better than trying to come in late when everyone else is a veteran.

That is, when the matchmaking actually works, anyway.

I havent been able to play much so i wandered the menus and was worried that the challenges were the only way to rank up but holy poo poo if thats true.

This may be something odd to be disappointed by but the lack of mask customization after 2 feels kinda rough.

It feels like that whole area is primed for dlcs rather than an actual game.

Yeah, and all guns are locked behind infamy levels lol. Seeing as how the game launched with multiple editions, with season passes and loot addons, yeah this is clearly going to be a DLC infested cash grab mess. It isn't enough of a departure or improvement from 2 for me to continue giving a poo poo about it. Already uninstalled it and moved on. What a disaster, thank gently caress I didn't get it on steam.

I have no idea how to unlock the second skill in the medic tree. I can't Research the skill because it doesn't say "Research" below the icon. I see "Steady Hands Locked 0/500" in the skill description so I assume there's some challenge i have to do first since this whole game seems to be designed around doing challenges but as far as I can tell it doesn't show me what I need to do anywhere on this screen. Is there a challenge called "Steady Hands" somewhere in this unsorted list of a thousand challenges that I have to find? I have 2 skill points, does it cost more than that to unlock it?

PD2 alternated free and paid dlc for ages, and it only required the host to have bought any given heist for the whole group to play it. There was a LOT of DLC but it was pretty reasonable compared to it's peers IMHO.

Yeah payday 2 had a fuckton of DLC but it was more (generally) good content for a game I loved plus only one person had to own it so it helped us stick with the game for ~300 hours over the course of many years. Wasn't really predatory at all it was just more content that you could buy if you wanted to.

Once you have the first skill in a tree equipped, you should just start getting XP for subsequent skills in that tree. If not, it may be another issue with server lag causing delayed entitlements.

This is also why when you're still running normal and hard heists you should get one point in several different trees, even if they are useless to you at the time, to make progress in upgrading them. You can get through the entire skill menu pretty quickly this way.

Yeah sometimes at the end of a match I'll level up a gun or whatever, but my progression doesn't show in the menus until I've done ANOTHER match. I'm having a good time with the game, hopefully they get things shaped up soon but I'll have the new darktide class update to hold me over until this gets where it needs to be

The cosmetic options in here feel phoned in a bit. Like do we really need 5 variations of the sweater-over-collared-shirt unlocking as late as level 91? This is all poo poo that can obviously be added over time but even the selection of masks and patterns is pretty piss poor.

Edit: I do really like the trading hostages for time thing, though. Just had a really smooth run because we kept trading in tons of hostages and it bought us so much time.

Why is this do bad? Well on it's defense - once you get down and play the heist, they are actually fun. But why did i have to wait 3 days to do so?
Why is everything else is do fucky?
Why is the PC UI such a clunky mess that's designed like people dont have mice?
Why is the in-game UI do full od wasted space? Where is the hostage counter? Why cant i see how many bags are secured?

The big thing is why it's all do barren? Why would i want more secondary slots than 8, when i can see 6 guns? Why is the AK47 locked do deep into the progression?

But most of all why are there only 6 maps? I always knew the game was gonna be less packed than Payday 2 as it had 10 years of dlc, BUT WHY IS IT LESS CONTENT THAN LAUNCH PAYDAY 2? Hector alone had 2 more maps than the entirety of Payday 3 (Firestarter 3, Rats 3, Watchdogs 2). And that's not counting escapes!

After all this time and 3 days od technical difficulties, Payday 3 is without a doubt my gaming disappointment of the year.

No, that's right, I mean you should throw a point into shotguns or pistols even if you aren't using those in early matches so that you are "using" them and they get leveled up. That way you are maxing out your trees at a time when skills don't really matter that much

Just had a stealth run go all the way to opening the vault before I got cornered without a silenced weapon and we had to go loud, that was actually pretty fun. Is there a way to silently take down someone on their own without a silenced weapon, like does melee'ing them from behind knock them out?

Kikas posted:

Yeah, I made the comparison before but this feels very similar to the Darktide launch for me. Game is technically out now but it's clearly a long way away from being a good game and probably could have used another 6 months to a year of development. We'll probably play some of it but this is going to be a "come back in a year" kind of game I think. At least with this I was able to play on gamepass and I can be sure that my progress will carry over to other platforms should I decide to buy it on Steam once (if) it's better.

This is an interesting comparison because I feel about PD3 the same way I did about Darktide at launch. It's a somewhat unbalanced game where certain weapons or classes are clearly better than others. There aren't a ton of missions, but the ones that are there are fun, and the gameplay itself it improved over its predecessors (PD2 and Vermintide respectively). The forums ran red with blood when it was out but I played Darktide some 50-odd hours around launch and have a positive feeling for it because I treated it like a game that I played when I felt like and not something that was going to be a forever game that I dedicate my life to. I'll go back to it when I get the mood.

I'm undoubtedly going to get my money's worth out of it, although we'll see how the DLC is to really say that since I bought the season pass. Everyone approaches games as they are but idk, I feel that with games like Darktide and PD3 I largely got what I paid for as they are right now.
