there was a period of time where they were exploring running a Boxing promotion and trying to do hybrid Zuffa Boxing/UFC cards but they just found boxing too expensive to get a foothold in and gave up on it pretty quickly.

It's a similar kind of style to the write-ups I think, telling the "whole" story, the human story, the journey of how the various paths crossed to lead to this point. Zooming all the way out and back in kind of vibe. Perhaps I flatter myself. Anyway obviously a lot has been written about Q-stuff already of course, but this answers the question of who actually started it and how, right down to the specific people in the room when it was conceived, which hasn't been done before. The journalists are actively wrong about it, often aggressively so. No one seems to care, and I don't expect that to be any different in here, and I don't want to start a discussion or derail the thread or anything, so please scroll past if it's not your bag, I'm just offering it to a fellow amateur writer and our benevolent OP and anyone else who might be interested since it came up and it kind of affects everything.

No UFC card next week. This is the first week off from UFC since the start of June. Carl, you deserve the rest Friday we have a ONE FC card on the Amazon Prime headling with fan favorite Stamp! Main card has 4 female fights , 3 of them for titles And Saturday morning there is a PFL Europe card headline by Cdric Doumb

Also I felt a little bad about mitchellposting and wanted to make the point a little more constructively: If you do not want to see the thread talking about a thing or if you'd rather the thread be talking about another thing, post another thing. Eh, I think it really is martial arts, for a few reasons. The first and more historical one is the link between martial arts, particularly cultural identity and folk traditions, and nationalism. But also, since the 20th century and the rise of mass culture, martial arts (and as other posters mentioned, things like powerlifting) are easily appropriated into the aesthetics of fascism -- normative masculinity, individual strength, violence, Hellenistic imagery, and so on. This is all necessarily true for combat sports as well, but I think combat sports being the only real avenue for martial arts to also be a big business and have a breakthrough cultural presence acts as an accelerant. The limited gameplan and lacking fight IQ that flight Strickland could still put on plenty of highlight reel fights against other top 10 WWs, if the UFC isnt done with him promotionally. Its certainly not a great sign for his fight camp focus going forward, though.
