I was a little disappointed when I found out you can't make yourself the killer by believing in it enough and telling Kim about it and blathering about it to everyone who will listen.

I mean, not really. But there was a hot minute where I thought maybe the game's narrative had some postmodern, Pynchonian cause/effect inversion going on and you could shape reality by thinking. That ended up a big part of the story's metaplot, but not the murder mystery. I ended up seeing it more like a "whydunnit" than a "whodunnit." Yeah, you're looking for who killed the hanged man, but their means and motive are more important to the narrative and thematic thrust of what is essentially a visual novel.

I nearly bounced off this game hard when I lost a tonne of progress early on (or at least it felt like a tonne at the time) by losing my single morale point for asking Roy about my lost gun and getting an immediate game over. I'd heard so much about how hard it was to fail, losing rolls is good etc. that I thought it was some sort of goof. Then the game did goof on me with the ledger faint and I reloaded a save straight away instead of playing it through lmao.

Really glad I stuck at it though and just finished my first run through. Seems like a pretty standard Centrist Sorry Cop experience but I loved it. Going to dive into another tomorrow weeeeee.

Play it through. The ledger faint is one of the best plotlines in the entire game.

i think the game's linearity is ultimately kind of a strength. it narrows the scope of content enough to let them write many diverse ways for the few necessary plot points to play out, and also it's a game in many ways about moving towards a preordained ending, from the coming apocalypse on a macro level to the returning Dora dream on a micro level.

as for moments that really hit im surprised that no one mentioned the pay phone, a sequence that made me have to stop playing the game for a bit. I've never regretted succeeding a check more, which is obviously what harry feels too. the way it stops you from backing off once you've started is absolutely brutal.

That bit hurt a lot, yeah. There's no cell phones, and she moved, so that means Harry committed her new number to memory, and they'd had that conversation before so just oof.

It's also the one instance of interacting with the real Dora, assuming the call itself wasn't another fever dream moment.

I posted like a year ago that I had read Kurvitz's book (check out my previous post for a small sample!) and should really get around to finishing the game.
Well, I finally restarted (I had played like 6 hours so not a huge loss) about two weeks ago and just finished.

Glad that Kim acknowledged me not having had a single drink! though also bummed that the one time I had a smoke to light the "art piece" on fire triggered the "he smoked all the time!!" text lol (perhaps I didn't even need to smoke one, just had to have them in my inventory? But the game said something like "light one up" first so I did. whatever, video game mechanics. clearly I am bothered by this

Anyway yeah, pretty great stuff. Definitely had to play it mostly in ~hour-long chunks because otherwise I would just start tuning out the walls of text and had to hold myself back from just skimming the text instead of thoroughly taking it in.

Just to be an rear end in a top hat tease you all, I think I enjoyed the book more - but they're two different things, apples and oranges.

NI MUERTE NI MIEDO
Starting a new playthrough of Disco and like the first playthrough I felt a strong influence of the Paris Commune and how that transpired historically.

I am playing through this yet again with my bf playing along with me both of us talking and considering all the choices and world building elements. Just want to post this song and other info that is yet again influencing my choices and such.

Have read bits posted here from the books translated and all while some see it bleakly, and even tho the Revochal revolution was crushed and further than that it ends with nukes and hell fire in further material there is still hope. That can never die, like the phasmid. It is hope for liberation. Freedom.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2011/aug/01/paris-commune-1871

quote:

La Commune may have only lasted 70 days, but this laboratory of social and political experimentation, of citizen exaltation, of audacity and courage, paved the way for a better future and translated republican ideals into concrete social and economic goals. Visionary public policies that were created in this period, such as civil partnerships, the separation of church and state, pay equality, freedom of the press, trade union representation within private firms and a minimum revenue, have now all been accepted and made into laws, some only very recently. If La Commune teaches one lesson, it is that insurrection is the most sacred of rights and that what is required in politics is, as Danton said: "De l'audace, encore de l'audace, toujours de l'audace" ("Audacity, still more audacity, and audacity for ever").

introduced him to Cuno and then showed the “you try to badger Kim into telling you about himself but his eyebrow has too much authority and you crumble before it” exchange and he was like “hm that’s pretty funny”

then the REAL sell (which seems to work on drat near anyone) was “also you can die in literally your first action” and he was in.

If your authority is high enough you can overpower Kim’s eyebrow. They changed a patch or two after the Final Cut and tbh I still don’t like it.

When i do commision art, i usually just go to artists i am friends with or have worked with before and its mostly just like a highquality plush of a character that can sit on my montor or something. but this one just popped into my head and i couldnt stop loving laughing. and i just dug around twitter until i found someone.
