multiple attempted defectors into North Korea have been kicked out over the years, including one guy who then attempted to defect to Venezuela and was also sent back by them (which was especially funny because he could have easily just gone to Venezuela and no one would have stopped him, but he had to make a show out of 'defecting' for some reason)

but yeah, the DPRK seems generally uninterested in harboring American dissidents - even the American soldiers who refused repatriation to the US after the Korean War ended all ended up living in China instead

I think these guys (his family) tried to funnel some money by donating shares of some company to a HK charity fund which is not covered by the bankruptcy law. And they already arrested the people running the wealth management arm of Evergrande.

Do you know Evergrande has a EV car venture? yeah it just smell like a money laundering scheme.

I hope they get his whole family.

The effects aren’t just economic. Business Insider pointed out that President Biden believes the property crisis reduces the possibility of a China-U.S. conflict over Taiwan. "He has his hands full right now," Biden said of Xi earlier this month. Xi’s efforts to spur his country’s economy are faltering, and some observers fear that means China might ratchet up its designs on Taiwan. Biden disagrees. "I don't think it's going to cause China to invade Taiwan,” Biden said. “Matter of fact the opposite, [the country] probably doesn't have the same capacity as it had before.”

According to the article, the bursting of the real estate bubble would result in a bad recession and high unemployment.

The result of the US housing market collapse wasn't "more people can afford houses now".

Who, construction workers?

The only ones who will be able to buy more houses as a result of a rapid price collapse are the ultra-wealthy. They needed to get hit with a property tax a decade ago

Construction aint going anywhere even if housing takes a hit.

Also Im sure the wealthy will just chomp at the bit of buying a bunch of houses during a glut with no guarantee that they will be able to offload them before they die and the lease goes back to the government. You've been making the same arguments since the thread started

Chinas rich are not buying chinas houses anymore.

In the event of a massive recession and collapse in demand for housing, of course construction work will thin out. Along with every other form of work, unless the government fills the void left by the private sector with another round of bailouts and stimulus projects.

The government lease is 70 years, most housing units were built in the past 10-20 years. There's no need to "offload" real estate when you buy them when prices bottom out and there's no property tax, as they're still one of the most reliable long-term investments to make, especially in an environment where there's greater risk in parking your money anywhere else
