Nessus posted:Anybody use the Cyberpunk RED game app? Yea. Short of it: Let your players download a free version to keep their character sheets on otherwise ignore it, and definitely don't pay for the premium version. It's really good for players as a character sheet/easily accessed wiki, and not good for anything else. Dude also takes forever to push updates, and decided to develop a website version instead of updating and polishing the mobile app. Dude also hasn't pushed any new content to it since the upgraded mooks DLC and dude went radio silent[October] until they said they where gonna start getting to work on black chrome, which is going to be a separate paid thing from the premium version[February]. There's also some minor technical issues which haven't been resolved to my knowledge. As a solo dev: I sympathize with them that being your own social media/qa/dev/whatever is slow, but yo if you're gonna charge for the work you atleast gotta post every so often "Hey I'm not dead, this is what's happening" Defenestrategy fucked around with this message at 16:31 on Mar 16, 2023 |

The price point seemed minor for the GM tools, at least. It’s good for core sheets? How is the web version?

I found the phone app to be perfectly serviceable for making a character in. For the low low price of free I think its fine for its intended use. The UI could be better and it could use a way to edit some things before finalizing your character, but it does the stats and skills math for you, which I liked.

They have a second session but it seems to be a different story altogether and isn't as good.

I think any LP that isn't explicitly "the publisher of the game runs a curated session with employees/allies/retainers to demonstrate the rules and maybe a sample module" is gonna be going long to see if they can be the next Critical Role. Hard to blame 'em too much. Do they have any ETAs on the 2077 expansion/worldbook stuff? I think that is going to have more pickup. That or the Baldur's Gate 3 total conversion.

Yeah I was watching it over a period of time, not in one long shot. It's basically a podcast (so a radio show) of dweebs fuckin around in the city, but they move their chars around and shoot guns, that kinda poo poo. Dunno, they have a bunch of poo poo going on it seems. They keep putting out more dlc & have other rpgs they're doing. There's a couple books they put out past the core rules & they got some internal reshuffling & employee changes that happened the other day. Websites kinda jank maybe their twitter or w/e is more accurate

They ARE working on Edgerunners with a quickstart coming first but RTG is a small outfit and they try not to just shove stuff out the door.

APs basically are radio shows, so yeah it makes sense that you'd have a good time if you listen to an AP like a radio show. They still work to pick up the rules by watching someone with working knowledge play the game, but that's not really their purpose.

I got to be in a playtest session of Edgerunners at GenCon. They specifically said they aren't going to give any estimated release dates because they "are really bad at deadlines", so they won't announce one until they are 100% sure that they will hit it. If people are interested though, here's the one-sheet they were giving away at their booth and the character sheet for the pregen I used.

Can anyone give me advice for how to role-play as a Fixer PC? Coming from a D&D/ Paizo background Fixers are intriguing to me as to their role in the party in Cyberpunk: am I effectively acting as my chooms manager and agent, hiring them out to others who need services rendered? I'm assuming I'm kind of the face of the party to other orgs or gangs: do I have my own slice of territory in the city, or do I play it as a wannabe up and comer? Am I supposed to go on the gigs with them? I know I am supposed to be the one figuring out how to supply and what not. I really like how Cyberpunk has more options as a game for roles besides "this is how you hit things", reminds me of Call of Cthulu, just wrapping my head around my potential position/ role.

Think Hannibal from the A-Team as one archetype that fits pretty well in the setting.
|
# ? Oct 9, 2023 16:54 |
i feel like you might as well go on gigs with them if you're not afraid to get your skull shattered, i'd probably go for it. May be a chance to trying to talk down or shmooze somebody, and even then it's not like you can't fight just because you don't have a solo's role abilities. On the other hand you could double down on noncombat stuff and make yourself useful there, try pulling strings to make the gigs easier for everyone else. Bamboozle or gently caress over the opposition in creative ways before the shooting even starts. Maybe you could get good enough to prevent problems coming up in the first place. Maybe your territory is where you have your initial local expert skills. How big's the difference between having a territory and being a poser who wants territory? Everybody's a wannabe until they make it, and everyone who's made it is only made until somebody else comes through and rolls them over.

The fixer would probably participate in portions of the gig which are closer to set up - for instance you might bring the solo and the nomad with you when you go to meet your horrible gangster buddy to get illegal Somali counter-ICE. You'd probably HOPE to stay home during the big risk of the operation but gee there just might be a reason to be around anyway. You might also take a more 'mastermind' kind of tack where you're coordinating and doing a lot of operational tasks while people who are specialists get their chance to go hard. Like Nessus said the Operator ability is your key to how established you are in Night City (or wherever): Contacts & Clients: City gang honcho, minor politician, Corp Exec, well known person in the neighborhood. Reach: You can always find a place to source up to Expensive items for your clients on a piece by piece basis, even if they are otherwise unavailable. Haggle: If successful, when you buy 5 or more of the same item, you can get one more of that item for free. Grease: You know how to get along well with at least 1 other culture in your area as well as gaining a single language you don't already know associated with that culture at Skill Level 4. So at rank 4 you're known as a person who can get ahold of weapons along the lines of assault rifles and shotguns and more exotic weaponry, you probably know people like the neighborhood's alderman, the head of the local Maelstrom or Tyger Claw set or whatever gang is local and you can talk to a local enclave without looking like a dope. Also going off the A-Team reference it's true you can easily be the party's Face even if you're basically Hannibal so you want a good COOL (most classes do, but especially you) and EMP (and in this case it's not because you want to cram a lot of chrome into your body).

My thought if I wanted to play a fixer and really lean into that job hard is that I'm basically building my fixer portfolio as a small timer with dreams of being big, because a big or even middle time fixer got better ideas than going out and getting flatlined. That portfolio includes money, the respect of other fixers, a clientele, and importantly a list of gonks what can accomplish what I need to accomplish, all of which can be accomplished by heading out on missions personally to make sure stuff is smooth, you aren't getting ripped off, and spreading your business card around to clients. From a gameplay perspective you are the DMs magical get out of jail free card and the teams vendor. Defenestrategy fucked around with this message at 17:56 on Oct 9, 2023 |

So I might be playing in a RED game and am kind of leaning towards a Medtech. Like some other role abilities, you've got points to distribute. I'm tempted to dump all four in Pharmaceuticals (don't get crazy, it explicitly says you can't make street drugs with it so the birth of 2045's Walter White has to wait) because that feels like it has the most relevance to an edgerunner crew. I feel like I probably won't be called upon to do anything that Paramedic can't take care of so I don't think I'll need Surgery and Cryostasis feels very situational.

Ah yes, sounds like my "Hibbert West, Reanimator" concept build. I think I named his agent after the assistant? Def had the pic be Dr Hibbert from Simpsons with a cyber eye, it was the scene with the terror sweat. I think I put basically everything into education and science: chemistry & science: biology, or something, and a few token utility skills thrown in. Iirc there are some critical injuries that can't be fixed without surgery, and they're the big deal bad ones. Also cryo I think at least keeps anyone from dying if you can bag em, which is important. Having at least one cryo could let you ice anyone who's about to die and escape, maybe? I'd def be going with medtech if I had a game. Feel like if you're going to go all meds you better be ready to use em freely & avoid the collecting potions trap where you die with 4 elixirs

Any tips? The fun thing about Netrunners is they don't have to worry about a certain skill to key off of. Like if you want to be a Rockerboy you need some kind of performance skill and Solo you need combat, etc., but Netrunners just rely on their programs and Role Ability for actual netrunning so it's up to you how your gonk gets to those access points and you can build your stats and skills around it. It can often lend itself to wanting good TECH-related stuff so you can fix/mod your deck and such but it's not a requirement. Want to go high REF and Autofire/Handgun and/or Shoulder Arms because you blaze way until you get where you need to be? Cool. High COOL and smooth talk your way in? Also valid. It's very freeing.

YOURE A TECHNO WIZARD DONT ASK ME WHAT FIREBALL DOES EVERY SESSION. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOURE THE ONE CASTING IT. 2) Tell your DM ahead of time that you're going to be a netrunner otherwise you're gonna be doing randomly generated dungeons when netrunning and boy howdy, can those absolutely kill your net runner pcs.
