gotta say, after WGA was wrapped up quicker than I expected with reasonably good results, I thought for sure SAG deal would go through quickly too. surprised they're now dragging that out

studios probably didn't want to fight losing wars on two fronts, now they can focus everything on loving with SAG (they're still gonna loose cause labor makes the world turn)

But on the other hand fighting two fronts is perhaps fairer (or more beneficial to the studio), because now SAG can look at WGA and go wtf guys, they got a good deal after awhile, we'll get one too. basically they handed over ammunition to SAG by defacto vua negotiating with WGA, which is why I thought SAG would get wrapped up quickly.

plus it's not like a tank-and-troop fight, they have the resources.

I'm ultimately trusting some random goon who seemed to know what they were talking about, but supposedly they need a few weeks for the writers to get up to speed so they may feel like they have a few weeks to gently caress around and see if they can grind SAG down. Seems pointless and like they're playing with fire, but I'm not an executive.

It's really dumb because sag is more powerful than the wga. Wga are a bunch of broke writers that nobody outside show super fans pay attention too, sga has big name actors donating to the fund and if they don't show up to a project people notice, just the dumbest strategy

I mean the sentiment is very obviously stupid overall. But I especially zero in on "north of 70k" as wages that can somehow produce bourgeois decadence.

less than they were asking for, but 40’s a tough sell, especially when you’re striking all three automakers at once. lol that ford got there first, though. I bet fain really puts the screws to the other two.

I would hope so, not destroying the tiered system would be a colossal failure.

thats quite a bit less of the 40% they asked for and if they didnt get rid of tiers yeah thats a massive loss

i guess we will see when it comes out

i mean 40% was obviously a fake number, not because it was “too high” but because your initial ask is always a fake number. you ask for more than your target so you can “give something up” in negotiations and still end up at a place you’re happy with. i don’t think I’ve ever in my life heard of a strike that got everything in its initial ask.

this is also why the teamsters ratified their contract 86% to 14% even though their raise was smaller than the initial ask.

that said the big questions are 1) what else did they get besides top line numbers (including tiers, yes) and 2) what were the rank and file expecting/hoping to get. if the actual tentative agreement is around the spot where those lines cross it’ll be comfortably ratified (and be a big win).
