Could you give an example? I don't know most of the words you used in your post but I'd love a "pretty good convoy" (whatever that is).

Convoy is yet another brand of flashlights, and on some models you can pick the options you want. Ages ago I bought Convoy S2+ from DealExtreme, and I could choose the color temperature, max power, smooth/textured reflector, and how many modes it had.

I think the comment about boost circuits is some kind of turbo mode, that these don't have.

[Edit] Something like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001388842348.html

 5000mAh max power. Maybe for 10 seconds. My version is half that, and it gets hot in like a minute at full power, and automatically drops power to avoid overheating. It is a nice "feature" during winter though ❄

I just get my friends Convoy S21a’s with a high CRI emitter and they all rave about how nice they are and how they’ve spoiled “normal” lights for them.
You don’t need to be super into them to just enjoy nice cheap things.

Nothing's going to happen if you use your cc directly on DHgate. They're a massive commerce site / payment processor, it's no riskier than using eBay.

CCs are pretty solid at fraud detection and that whole thing now too, so. I forget if I did CC or PayPal but I got my CC info stolen at a gas station in Houston, not on one of these sites.

I think they’re naked anime and/or ahegao type stuff based on similar, less-censored listings. Definitely not gundams I wanted for my laptop.

As a husky man buying clothes on ali is challenging because a 2XL can end up being a Medium, but I’ve bought half a dozen cheap “oversize harajuku style” hoodies and they’re great. They do hang loose, even on me, but they’re comfortable and cheap for around the house.

I hate the way they split up the cart in the app between “shipped by global seller” and “upgraded delivery by global seller” and “shipped by aliexpress”. Utterly annoying scrolling through the 50+ items I probably won’t buy but keep looking at because they’re not longer in the order added.

Still waiting on a bunch of stuff, I figure it’s all going to land in one big bundle some day soon but yesterday a couple of cheap nato watch straps and a watch pin tool showed up, so maybe not, maybe they’re just on the slow boat.

I've bought 2 different ones.

This one ($1!) more expensive but looks and feels nicer, and won't turn on if it's light enough, which should save the battery

This one always turns on, but you can get it in different lengths to suit your car.

Much better than they used to be. You still get what you pay for, so don't expect 10 bricks for a penny to have the most accurate tolerances.

Yeah all I’ve gotten have been good. Occasional wrong color, missing piece. Lots of cool sets Lego doesn’t make and for waaaay cheaper. Minifigs too. gently caress the tiny ones though.

I have brought a few "store front" not-lego, as well as lego. They are fine.

Keep in mind some of these are 30% smaller than regular lego some are even smaller like 50% smaller. The super small ones you can usually tell from the photo. But the 30% smaller ones is harder to tell.

See the noodle house in the far right, its the 30% smaller one. I like the standard sized ones. Smaller ones I feel they are unnecessarily complicated. Like they want to print 300, 400 pieces on the box for a cheap $10 price.

All they bigger non-lego are standard size. Some of them have very good quality. Like the sets from the "Jaki" label.

Jumping off on this, wasn’t there a set of bone conduction earphones on Ali that were supposed to be good in the $30 range? I picked up what I thought was a mono bud that was bone conduction but it turned out to just be a tiny speaker that points right into my ear.

I don’t know that one exactly but I’ve bought a dozen or more fake lego kits and the number of pieces is usually correct. There’s variance in the overage/extra pieces: The big Millenium Falcon didn’t have very many spares at all but the others have had spare counts comparable to lego.

Quality varies too, it’s not bad but it’s never as perfect tolerance-wise as lego. On a few occasions I’ve had to grab my modelling knife / pen knife and remove flash, shave down the inside of a connector, but that’s not common.

It sure beats paying lego prices.
