I bought the new Dokken CD. I love Dokken, have their complete discography, including Breaking the Chains when it was released under Don Dokken before Elektra remixed / reissued it (this is a bootleg CD, an awesome bootleg). Back for the Attack is their best record. Give that one a listen if you're unfamiliar with Dokken. Kiss of Death and Night by Night are my favorites from that album. I'm gonna be rockin' with Dokken this weekend.

I hear that. Dokken and WASP are like the only hair metal bands I can tolerate. They're awesome!

e: Also Van Halen

Wow, thanks y'all. I have much to study. Will report back.

e: OK, the ones that I dug were:

  • Voivod
  • Watchtower
  • Anacrusis
  • Deathrow
  • Annhilator
  • Gama Bomb
  • Municipal Waste
  • Bloodletter
  • Overkill
  • Stygian - hell yeah
  • Wasted Youth
  • Kreator
  • Toxic Holocaust
  • Birth A.D. - also hell yeah

Gonna whip up a playlist and annoy my loved ones. Fuckin awesome.

You're doing it right!

Next try these classics:
CROSSOVER, D.R.I
Fabulous Disaster, Exodus
The Gathering, Testament

And some new age old school thrash
The Omniclasm, Lich King

Still active according to Metallum. Slow Forever is one of my favorite albums of the ‘10s so I would love to hear a follow up.

drat, I could've sworn Don Dokken died ages ago, so I haven't even been on the lookout for any of his stuff! Either way, Dream Warriors will forever be a great (and currently seasonally appropriate!) song, regardless of anyone's other opinions on the band/guy. Either way, the quoted poster is right

Now, time to find out more about this supposed recent Dokken music...

TANKARD will not be able to play because a member in the band needs to undergo surgery in early 2024 and is not expected to be recovered in time to travel to the US for MDF. As this has absolutely nothing to do with visa issues or their ability to enter the US, the decision was made to confirm them for MDF 2025, so consider TANKARD as the first confirmed band for that edition.

OPPRESSOR have reunited and will perform live for the first time in 25 years, exclusively at MDF 2024! They will play all of the favorites from their 90's albums on Friday, May 24th at Power Plant/Market Place.

gaerea: these guys are alright but don’t translate well live imo. the singer, mainly. tries very hard to be vessel from sleep token in his theatrics but spent most of the show going “buhhhhh… GUUUuhhhhh?? Denver???? GAEREA!!!!!!”. there’s all sorts of melodies that I like in their music that couldn’t make it through my earplugs.

blackbraid: owned. a lot. a ton of genuine stage energy, music came across really well, more feeling in it than listening to it cold. singer had some pipes, everyone on stage drank a ton, rhythm guitar dude spit in my face. would make a point to go see them no matter who else was on the ticket.

wolves itt: lol they suck a bunch, I’m already in an Uber home, bitch

Saw this lot in Baltimore and this is about my assessment except Wolves owns even if they're not necessarily the best live band.

I described Gaerea to a friend as a murloc with bronchitis that occasionally screams "BALTIMORE." They weren't, uh, good, but I enjoyed their show. I have no idea how my opinion would have changed if I'd ever heard of them.

I don't understand why vocalists do this. Do they think we don't know where we are?

They are addressing the crowd as a whole. The city name is the best collective noun for it.

The one that bugs me just a smidgen is “CIRCLE PIT!!” Not the first time they say it, but after like the third time it seems a little desperate, like Jeb Bush going “please clap”. If people wanted a circle pit there would have already been one!
