Are there different demands based off NA/EU? My NA cities have demanded sprawling low density residential, but I just started a new EU city and the demand is mostly for medium residential. It'd make sense, but with the game as it is right now I can't tell if I'm just imagining there being different preferences.

My City has flooded somehow and I have no idea what to do about it except maybe bulldoze a bunch of stuff and build a levee with the landscaping tool Guess I’ll just start a new city

But it didn't actually seem to be doing anything to them, so I largely just left it be. Businesses seem perfectly content to drop/raise the terrain 80 feet to fit so you might see if you delete those buildings and suddenly that spot is underwater.

The flooding keeps spreading and the buildings are collapsing due to the water apparently. Might be a good time to wait for some patches I guess.

turn off the TV posted:the nebulous "efficiency" stat that is tied to funding instead of actual service effectiveness is so loving lame and lovely. a baseline elementary school has capacity for 1000 students. if i have 100 students attending it, and the budget is set to 50%, then the efficiency takes a 80-90% penalty despite only using what should be 1/5th of that capacity. it's like that for every service and it makes adjusting the budget basically pointless since a lot of them provide zero mechanical benefit unless fully funded Yeah this is really annoying. I cut the budget (and I regret this) for schools and my high school had a 50% dropout rate and the college 87%. There's only 300 students in each, bro that was just my RL graduating class. I'm not trying to make it less effective, I just want to trim capacity down to size and save a bit of money. So I guess unless I want the college to be Devry, I have to fully fund it as if it had 5 times the students it does.

I appreciate everyone bug testing this game and posting their observations. I wanted to buy and play it, but I think watching the entire collapse of every in-game system through the posts ITT is probably a better user experience.

Literally the first city I tried to make after booting up the game on release day got completely flooded after like an hour or so bc I was doing some terraforming near a lake and then the water just decided to start traveling against the gradient of the land and into my city. Was extremely funny and stupid watching it slowly spread uphill. In hindsight that was probably the game just trying to show me how busted it was right at the beginning.

Found an interesting post on the paradox forums, from a guy saying he thinks he knows the root cause of the garbage processing bug:quote:I've been able to re-create the "bug" of garbage piling up despite having excess processing capacity by using only one type of garbage processor and I have been able to grow a city and avoid the "bug" by using varied facilities including the industrial waste processor. https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/developer-diary/co-word-of-the-week-1.1606113/post-29230703 And the guide on Steam that he mentions: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3067717790&searchtext=garbage Wouldn't surprise me if it was true, and the UI just doesn't give you the details that there's unfilled types of garbage collection. I think that UI kind of stuff is a huge issue CO has had since C:S1, and the games really lack a way of giving the player intuition in to whats happening and a way to resolve it.

I didn’t think CO was a big dev team but from experience so many bugs seem like they’re teams of devs works entirely in their own silos and showing up a week before launch to showcase and integrate. “Look we even have teeth!” “That’s nothing, our garbage system simulates 6 types of garbage!” … “Hey did anyone ever talk to the UX guys?” e: just to head this off: this is a joke not an actual attempt at assessment of their dev practices.

Yea, now that the performance patch is on gamepass and that Gamers Nexus video compared the settings I went ahead and tweaked some stuff and bumped my resolution up to 1440p for DLDSR. It's still not great but it's not unplayably poo poo and looks a billion times better without horrible aliasing everywhere. I played CS1 for 2000 hours with worse FPS.

Performance was the big thing everyone was losing their minds over leading up to release, and it turns out thats the one issue with the game thats almost irrelevant.

Maybe performance was deliberately chosen to direct gamer tears towards? Easier to fix* than all of the other stuff. * Easier for this particular game.

The garbage bug explanation makes a ton of sense. It jives exactly with the dev comment that the not enough customers bug is based on what specific item type that store is selling not being purchased properly by the population base. Its quite possible that a lot of the issues aren’t bugs at all but simply obfuscated game mechanics. Like they could fix the garbage bug by simply painting the storage capacity bar three different colors and editing some text on the modular upgrades.

Many districts will still promote a kid even if they've only showed up to school a handful of times in the year, so you can have kids that have de facto dropped out but are counted as graduates of 8th grade.

Probably scary as gently caress for the pilots since it's a death star trench run to take off and land. New Hong Kong airport would also be a good example of zoning an airport with infinite money. Just find the most useless area possible - ocean leading to a mountain too steep to build on and just make a new island to build the airport on so it's away from everything else. Then just build all the highways, subways, ferries, bus terminals and all the other transit porn the game offers so it's still easy to get to.
