I have to keep reminding me that this comic is about some people LARPing as vikings and not actual viking era stuff, otherwise my brain would shatter into tiny pieces trying to figure out the hows and whys of nearly every scene.

Flash Gordon

We're only two weeks in and a LOT has already happened. We've had at least a brief introduction to half a dozen characters plus the entire planet Mongo and its political situation. We've had an air battle, a boarding action, a high-tech sabotage, a rescue, a standoff with the villain, and now a swordfight featuring a (possible) heroic self-sacrifice. But somehow it doesn't feel rushed. I'm loving the hell out of this strip.

Well, now 1943 really doesn't have an excuse, because on the 25th my OOW paper of choice added another page of strips...in the middle of the week, for some reason. And it's all made possible by the disappearance of zinc!

I don't know about dangerous but it definitely seemed like he'd always been an arsehole and the mother just didn't want anything more to do with him. And I didn't get the impression that the daughter knew anything about him at all. The fact that she found him just as he moved into a new address is weird but might just be an oversight, because otherwise she could just have googled him to find out roughly where he lived and then looked him up in the phone book. She seemed surprised that he'd been in the military, which is something her mother definitely knew.

It's not actually clear to me she does think he's an arsehole. Going by this strip-

She had fairly nostalgic memories about him which she relayed to her daughter. Which somehow didn't involve mentioning that he was in the military. This also better contextualizes this strip-

Where she acts surprised that he'd think any of this is a big deal at all, and seemed to think the purpose of the meeting was just to reminisce about old times.

... I'm really enjoying this comic, but also this TYPE of comic. One where it provides input into how things were at a particular time, but without necessarily idealizing them, either? I think it's why I have a soft spot for OoW, the Boardinghouse gang and the Toonerville folk.

I appreciated this edit, even if Powerup comics are in the PYF thread.
