When I was 16 I decided to go vegetarian, and I wanted my last meat to count, so I got a green chile lotaburger. 30+ years later, I still think that was the right call. |

RavenousScoot posted:also hey cruft, apparently you can eat fish now! It is shocking how many people think fish is vegetarian. I think most of them are Catholic. Which would mean they consider Beaver meat to be vegetarian, too. Also they misspelled pickle. |

Ms Cruft took me to the coolest coffee shop in southwestern New Mexico, and I had a vegetarian pasty (rhymes with nasty). A pasty is like a calzone with no cheese, I guess. You can typically find them in mining towns like Silver City or Butte. It was kinda like having lunch in a Brian Froud painting. |

Well I spent all afternoon making the most disappointing sweet potato fries. Just burned soggy greasy lumps of sweet potato. Can't even taste the spices on them. |

sweet potato fries are hard. roasting them in chunks usually works better for me. i had oatmeal for my first meal, which was around lunchtime

It's rare I've had a sweet potato fry that made me think, oh, yeah, this is totally better than ordinary potato fries and well worth the extra dollar or whatever. I guess they have beta carotene, but not enough to make up for them sucking. |

The only way to make them good is by rolling them in starch so they have a fragile crispy shell that immediately gets soggy from the outgassing of moisture in the fry body. |
# ? Nov 14, 2023 00:39 |

yeah sweet potato fry problems are the same as normal fry problems just twice as intense. and most restaurants can't manage a good french fry in the first place
