The EJ25x had no loving business in that generation Outback. It was a very heavy car, underpowered as hell, and the 2.5 got roughly the same mileage as the 3.0. It was painfully slow at highway speeds, though to be fair, mine really felt/sounded like it was down on compression. I would still own another (by far the most useful car I've owned, and just as comfortable as my Lexus), but it would have to be a 3.0 variant. randomidiot fucked around with this message at 00:42 on Nov 14, 2023 |

Wasn't the 3.0 H6 the lovely one, and the 3.6 H6 at least a bit better? Either way, you could just buy the older 4th gen Outback with the turbo 2.5, and all the joy that entails.

Lathechat made me think about how In college I used to work in a small town rickety old rambling machine shop (they'd just add a new metal shed if there was new stuff to use) where the founder was a 90ish year old wealthy Lathe-horder and his 65ish year old son ran the business now, but the old boy still came in and helped me do random odd crap around the place because he loved hanging out and seeing people doing the work. The major business they did was refinishing huge paper rollers, so they had some incredibly monstrous old-school equipment making huge amounts of noise and endangering limbs. They also made, by hand, huge chains that snowplows use/used to spin out the sand/salt, and that entailed some 1930's era hilariously loud & safety-measure-free stamper that just pounded out lengths 5 hours a day while the operator dude permanently smoked a cigarette and drank 12 Pepsi's before lunch. I assembled the chains and then he used some sort of additionally dangerous riveter thing to put them together. I guess OSHA didn't exist back then, or whatever. I totally wish I had pictures of the great variety of junk in the interior and stored around the outside of that place, this wouldn't be the right thread but I have a feeling AI in general would have loved the huge collection of insanely old and dangerous machines we had going on there that were still mostly in use.

Completely typical for a modern dual cab. Their beds cant carry poo poo and one reason why I hate them all The real terrible thing is that's a highly expensive carbon bike with it's downtube resting on metal. That bike will be ruined so loving fast, whomever did that needs a clip around the ears for being so stupid and their bike confiscated Darchangel posted:It's just you, man. Mine loves me. I've gone to some lengths to document that the true lovely head gaskets are actually the 3.0R's, the EJ25 is reliable is gently caress in comparison. Oh and good luck when the 3.0R's head warps due to that lovely head gaskets. Absolutly no one should go near any 3L H6 Subaru, it is a grenade waiting to happen in ways the EJ series never could hope to match quote:I was doing the math, I can fit an entire bike* in my 3 series wagon and it is 48.9" shorter than a cybertruck. I hear the 5-speed in the '05+ is much better, not to mention a revised 3.0. Wouldn't mind one of those. I'm pretty sure my base 2.5 had the same transmission. Yeah, it was frustrating, but I had to floor it just to keep up with traffic when leaving a stop anyway. When a Geo Metro is able to keep up with you when you're standing on it, you're a bit low on power. But 150 hp in a ~3600 pound AWD car, with a transmission that upshifts juuuuust as it's starting to make power... I had just changed the timing belt on mine when I got hit. I don't THINK the head gaskets had fully let go - I had to add a little coolant here and there, but as far as I could tell, it was only leaking externally. Never overheated while I had it, had the original radiator when I got it (which popped on me, but I caught it before the temp gauge even budged; topped it off with water and left the cap loose, took all of an hour to replace the same day). Plugs didn't show any signs of coolant being burned, never saw anything from the exhaust. Definitely tired though. I had a chance to drive an 04 manual with the EJ, and it really wasn't much quicker. Supposedly had about 3k (miles) on the engine and clutch. It scooted a little better off the line, but once you were out of 1st it was boringtown. I don't like the 05+ simply because you can't replace the drat stereo in it. The interior is a little nicer, but not much. randomidiot fucked around with this message at 21:37 on Nov 14, 2023 |
