the oil that the US produces is a different type of oil that US refineries aren't equipped to process. that's why we import oil despite producing a lot of it ourselves.

it depends on source Reuters was this year:

what. US refineries mostly refine US and Canadian oil. the vast bulk of oil extracted in the US is refined in the US

with Canada included it's just flat out true, we extract an insane amount of fossil fuels in the US and Canada

yeah Canada has got the lovely high sulfur stuff we were also buying from Russia I think.

edit that our refineries are geared for.

so what you said is:

"the oil that the US produces is a different type of oil that US refineries aren't equipped to process. that's why we import oil despite producing a lot of it ourselves."

what this article says is:

"Even though a lot of that light sweet crude is coming from Texas, where the refineries are, the U.S. imports foreign oil in order to make use of the existing infrastructure."

you see how this are totally incongruent, right?

there is a lot of mismatch in refining capacities and different types of oils being produced globally, but most of what is drawn in the US is also refined here

Ah, so only energy sources being imported vs exported. Even not counting oil for plastic, the cost of like, just driving trucks and boats around, and powering the factories that make poo poo thats imported to the US, is probably going to skyrocket once US can't export as much energy

Probably won't help unless we also ship that oil overseas to China to help them make all of our consumer poo poo

betcha he's been bullshitting about prospects of reducing sample generation costs. There's no roadmap to make ChatGPT profitable without a magic decline in electricity and hardware costs.
