Um, would have been fine if it were a 6 hour probe, like you gave yourself. Totally cool. But you gave me an 18 hour probe? Not cool. Let's keep parity on these things. 6 hours is good. Literal nothingburger.vThis is the second weird probation you've given me (the first most people (4 or 5? 7 ? I lost count) disagreed with, saying you misread my post.

Not big big on mod sass but this is twice you hosed me. I am active in other subforums, also those closely tied to my work. You're actively interfering in my life. I guess I could have PMd you about this. I PMd the mod about your last thing and they didn't care (to their credit they were on vacation, so they get a pass) so I'm making this public.

TBF drinks were very reasonably priced. $12 for a beer is like normal vegas pricing and all non alcoholic is comp’d. All food is comp’d as well. Which when you look at the $2500 face of the ticket is lmao very much not free.

Alcohol is expensive but no more than it is on the strip if you aren’t gambling.

Oh wow that's not bad compared to the standard usury of strip alcohol pricing. I grabbed a beer at brewdog for about that much last week. Our strategy this trip was the same as any other. Have a bottle of whisky in the room and get a base layer down so you don't need to drink while you're out. From there just have light beer.

I didn't mind the stands and fences and I at least found it interesting as a change from normal Vegas. I find the whole experience to be like a polished scam, I enjoy it and don't take anything there very serious as fancy or nice, just flashy.

I also understand being disappointed if you want to see things in the strip that were there normally.

when (the most popular) race cars moved away from manual transmissions they got boring

like—no joke—if they ever did a Formula E style “touring car E” or similar and gave cars the Toyota fake manual that is apparently good enough, despite being implemented super cheaply, I would watch the poo poo out of it over FE/F1/etc

My main draw to Vegas is cheap and plentiful hotels and airfare, with awesome stuff outside the city like Red Rock and Valley of Fire and Hoover Dam and other places in the desert. It’s fantastic as a launching point for family/friend trips. There’s deals to get there from virtually every area in North America.

I lived in Vegas for months and never spent a dime on gambling. If you want to see a show or something you can find deals on that, too. You never need to go near the strip if you don’t want to.

I go to vegas a bunch for work and off strip it’s okay, if too loving hot in the summer. The strip is not really a place to be outside of making that the focal point of the trip. The best part about vegas frequently for me is I can actually get good tacos that I have been unable to moving from CA to WA.

Vegas itself is a lovely themepark that tries to be disney after dark or someshit but it's more like a seedy shithole for divorced dads.
The desert and abandoned mines around it were cool till all the trash from socal and texas moved to vegas and utterly destroyed the local nature.

Last time I camped near lake mead is probably the last time I'll visit the area till the lake goes deadpool. Rapid expansion, no care for water conservation, and people trashing the beauty of the desert make it not worth going.
There's lots of wheeling, but the trails have been really beat up or hogged out to the point I can get the 7 ton overlander in and out where 12 years ago, dirtbikes and dedicated crawlers were required.

If you want company, go over the hump to pahrump.

It's the ever increasing number of international flights and the tourists coming from Europe and Asia that mystifies me the most. You're gonna fly 10-14 hours to go to Vegas of all places? The mind boggles. Lots of gorgeous scenery around there though so it's not a total waste

Vegas was a pretty great starting point for a road trip around Grand Canyon and California. Clearly the nicest hotel of the trip, superior to the cheap motels in Los Angeles.

The strip is such a vile place. Dripping with sleaze, extremely obnoxious lights and sounds all competing for your attention, the stank of cigarette smoke, and far too many people. Many of those people have deliberately chosen to travel to vegas with the express purpose of making bad decisions which is not a crowd I want to be anywhere near. All made worse by the fact that it's happing in a place that is not fit for human habitation.

I still go there for DEF CON most years but the being in vegas part of the con really reduces my enjoyment of it.
