it's more like Israel knew 10/7 was coming and intentionally did nothing thinking it would give them pretext to complete their genocide of Palestine

no country gives up like 1% of their armed forces to set up a false flag. it's okay to admit they got complacent

It's more likely they underestimated it and thought it was just going to be a big barrage of Qassams that would be shot down by Iron Dome instead of a full on ground operation.

There's a half dozen sources from Egyptian, American, and Israelis themselves saying that there were signs of a big operation that they warned Israel about in the lead up to October 7th, and the only people in the entire world saying "nuh uh" is Netanyahu's government.

Lipstick Apathy
there's knowing what's actually going to happen and then there's getting wind of something or hearing that "they're up to something." something's cookin'. which was it? israel and hamas have also fought wars every four years or so.

Israelis were too stupid to think that Hamas would try anything and too arrogant to care.

Wow only 5 minutes into the Nov 15th ep and it’s already a banger:

- John saying that Mary Woronov was a porn star (p sure he meant Marylin Chambers).

- Weird Sam Kinison reference.

- Mark dropping 2nd gen immigrant Yiddish ‘verclempt’ when he usually uses less Yiddish than even me (he used it right tho). Re-establishing creds?

- Mark and John both failing to understand what a virus is and struggling to find a better insult to the foreign policy class than “blue checks”.

- John’s “unexpected ferocity of Hamas” and their rivalry with Hezbollah.

God do I love this show it’s oddball vaguely remembered older GenX references combined with incredibly astute analysis just owns.

It's not an uncommon tactic. During the brazilian dictstorship, usual procedure when insurgents took histages was to consider the hostages as already dead, and just waste everyone.

It held until a small group of marxist student s lucked out and kidnapped the US ambassador (Charles Burke Elbrick), and suddenly the brass could not afford to just bust in shooting and risk adding 9 holes to their benefactor's diplomat. They negotiated and released 70+ political prisoners. The ambassador himself was decently treated and even asked for the music records they played for him during captivity as a gift, which he got.

Ironically enough, the main damage this caused to the regime was an internal split between hardliners who believed that they SHOULD have killed Burke and all the reds, plus all the prisoners, and the softies who wanted to stay on Uncle Sam's good side.
