"THE FLASH IS THE REASON
TO RACE TO THE THEATRES"

This title contains sponsored content.

it's a hatchet job on bonaparte for sure, though basically every historical figure portrayed is made totally grotesque. wellington looks like a spitting image puppet.

also the guy who plays paul barras is doing a loving zaphod beetlebrox impression

i had a dream where i realized that the climax to the dark knight was dumb. like the people of your city not only know who their attorney general is but so believe in him that you have throw the cool bad rear end ninja who watches over your city under the bus to protect his reputation?

Exploration is ill-advised.
Like the only attorney general I know people knowing about is the one who held up Australia having an R rating for video games for years.

It’s very funny WB hosed around and lost Nolan prior to this. Universal must be laughing all the way to the bank.

I think it's interesting that Korra has a huge cast of 50 year old + failkids, many of them childless, and it's way more interested in them than the teenagers. There's so few shows like that.

"everyone in the original cast turned out to be a terrible parent offscreen" was definitely a weird creative decision and is also just as weirdly the main thing korra has in common with the star wars sequel trilogy

in a place where the district attorney is actively fighting entrenched and violent organized crime and suffers an assassination attempt in the court room I think most people would know about them yeah. people in Philadelphia know about the DA and the only thing he did is try to get rid of cash bail. the boat thing is way dumber

watched pantheon s02 e03 and am feeling kind of bugged by the american troop upload its legitimately weird that the whole sequence goes first she physically assaults the guy trying to help her then her husband threatens to murder both of the teenagers trying to help her and while all this was going on their children literally steal the computer and use it to play video games i was right there with mist going why the gently caress should i help you when your whole family is obviously psychotic

i might have thought this was all an intentional slash ironic depiction of american main character syndrome except the resolution of the troop promising to use the enhanced power to just do the same hoorah bullshit she already signed up for and not ratting the teenagers out to the cops is just such an absurd bare minimum for the situation i couldnt at all see what there was to celebrate im a little surprised the teenagers didnt just give up on the whole goofy rear end guardian plan right there but then its not like they have any better ideas

im actually reading some short stories by ken liu who appears to be the idea man for the series and this is all pretty within his ethos biting critique of the more negative aspects of american culture with a layer of confusingly counterintuitive optimism about that very same culture the best character is indisputedly the chinese chess playing marxist dissident im holding out hope that his attitude during the confrontation with holstrum was just his reading the room and realizing this was an unwinnable fight and that holstrum like basically literally anyone else is just going to assume he was arrested for being a liberal democrat and not an old school marxist unless he explicitly tells him otherwise

my favourite part of the Nolan batmans are the bit part exposition guys that sound like GTA pedestrians

in Begins it's the waterworks guy screaming AAAAY IF DAT WATER PRESSURE REACHES US DA WHOLE CITY IS GONNA BLOW

in Dark Knight its the cop riding with Gordon in disguise whose like DOES THAT CLOWN HAVE A BAZOOKA I DIDNT SIGN UP FOR THIS

in Rise its an army of cops yelling cop poo poo

still think the highpoints were the intro the Dark Knight and the training montage in Begins

I liked when the cops emerge from the sewers after several months of no beds, toilets, showers, heat, physical training, equipment maintenance, medical care, changes of clothes, regular food and water, ready willing and able to engage en masse in fistfights and shootouts with a city full of criminals who are all completely yakked to the gill slits on whatever scarecrow juice is on offer

along these lines I've been ruminating on Roland Emmerich's formula for a while now and it's really starting to solidify in my mind
you've got:

-bedraggled scientist portending doom that no one believes
-comic relief character(s)
-skeptical military figure that falls in a sinkhole or explodes or something
-skeptical-turned-believer authority figure that finally empowers scientist
-endangered children, orphaned or related to above

it's blatant but it works

fun thing, the new Dolby vision hdr or whatever doesn’t play in Plex as it turns it all purple-green. I watched it late at night on edibles and I was like man this is really interesting color scheme, I love how dark and stylized it is with being all purple and green

I didn’t realize until later that it wasn’t meant to look that but I think it worked

I’d have been ok with that it IF the guns were bombastically over the top and badass like matrix or equilibrium on steroids, but they were insanely dull generic gun fights hiding behind dream truck taking pot shots or w/e

but yea it’s not creative at all

reminds me of when I saw Being John Malkovich in theatres and they didn't correct the projector aspect so I could see all the boom mics, especially in the tiny office scenes. felt completely natural

also new Batman was cool in that they used The Unreal Volume correctly. nice tight shots with narrow depth of field and nice on set color/light bounce

early Mandolorian did this too but now every Disney show is wide shots of people flailing inside a 50 foot circle
