i'll go ahead and go to bat for Sleepy Hollow being a legitimately great movie, Burton's last great movie, no one ever did a better job paying tribute to Hammer and as others have said, all time production design and an extremely sick cast, great death scenes, 10/10

I rewatched it recently and second this, but have to deduct one point for Depp's clean-shaved proto-Jack Sparrow that, knowing Jack Sparrow and how all that went, grated a little here and there. But the surrounding movie works better with that character than the Pirates movies; at times Crane is like a Frank Drebin with the other characters pausing for a second to figure out what he's on about.

Man, for all of its faults, and there are quite a few, Hellraiser 2022 has some cool stuff. I really love all of the "reality shifting around" bits.

A Hellraiser movie from 2022 has absolutely no right being as good as it is. Sure it's the bronze medal of the series, but hell, it took 34 loving years to finally get a third genuinely good entry from that franchise.

The main thing that bothered me about Hellraiser 2022 was that you could solve the puzzle box, dodge the spike, and just poke people with the sharp bit to send them to hell.

Hellraiser 2022 is like the fifth or sixth best Hellraiser, tops.

I liked the Hellraiser with the guy from Oz who had breast cancer and the car accident commercials. It's like 90% film noir and then pinhead or the box shows up. Man, I gotta put that on my rewatch list.

The movie makes explicitly clear that whoever wants to open the box/go through its configurations is an utter bastard and I thought it made sense that the box would encourage that kind of cheating. It was pretty funny when that bit them in the rear end, though. RIP Chatterer, the Worf of Cenobites.

Listen here, funnyman!
I just watched Saw X for the first time.

I really like this one because it feels like an evolution of the series. It drops a lot of the 00s torture porn conventions (still bloody and gory though and no complaints) and instead gives Tobin Bell a hell of a lot more time to shine as John Kramer. Like we see John Kramer as a far more understanding figure (something well overdue for the series) who kind of goes down the path his does with this cold and dull logic. We as the audience then get to see his plight and decide when we want to get off the train and at what point on the path. That's not to say I agree with Jigsaw just that this film doesn't show him as a melodramatic supervillain. Well overdue like I said.

Small thing but I appreciated the small injections of gallows humor into the film like Amanda saying "He's speaking metaphorically...he does that a lot" to a victim. This is something 00s torture porn films never did because they just took themselves so seriously to the point of being edgelord about it. It was welcome.

Hey Celtic Predator (or anyone else with a horror or even sci-fi short film up their sleeve) Frostbiter the Icelandic Horror Film Festival is looking for submissions until the 15th of December and it's only twenty (20) bucks.

It's not likely to be seen by more than a couple dozen people in an Industrial space in rural Iceland but at least it's a legit festival unlike probably 40% of the stuff on Film Freeway.

I watched It's a Wonderful Knife and man, I don't think it was necessarily a GOOD movie but for some reason it really clicked with me and I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's kind of nice having a fairly straight forward, short movie with a pretty original concept.

I think between this, Barbarian and the Creepshow episode he was in, Justin Long may have found his calling as a Horror rear end in a top hat™.

Though all I could think watching it was "Is this main character intentionally dressed to look like Ashley Graham?"

I will always stan Sleepy Hollow as the last good Burton. The plot’s kind of a mess but it perfectly captures that hot-cider on a crisp autumn night horror mood. And that’s kind of my whole vibe, so I have to love it.

Criminal lack of love for Miranda Richardson though. She chews twice as much scenery as her male counterparts too since she plays two roles.

Instead I watched Where The Devil Roams, the new one by the Hellbender family. I was lukewarm on that one but this one ruled, takes a while to get going but the whole final act is just so gross and delightful. Horror as performance art, weird clowns, Frankenstein elements, circus hangout scenes, this one hit a whole lot of marks for me.

You won't be disappointed - Godzilla Minus One has a lot of clear Miyazaki influence, which I appreciated, and it mixes it with some fascinating Spielberg influences as well while also delivering some truly harrowing depictions of war, tragedy, and destruction. It's a fantastic time.

December is a good movie month between this, The Boy and the Heron, and The Iron Claw. My favorite theater is gonna be seeing a lot of me.
