Safe owns, and you can reasonably hold it in high regard in your own personal favorites, but I just don't see the connection to A24 films whatsoever.

IMDB has 3 titles called "Safe", a Netflix miniseries with Michael C. Hall, an action flick with Jason Statham, and some movie with Julianne Moore about people who are allergic to modern living or something. Which one are you guys talking about?

The Statham movie is very underrated. Not very scary though.

In the internet age you have to name your movie something more clearly identifiable than "Safe", so that people can easily find it when they search. Like, it would be a bad idea to name your movie "Horror" because it would effectively be invisible to internet searches.

horror would be a fun name for a horror movie tbh lol

There was V/H/S chat a few weeks ago, specifically about old ones vs. newer ones. A producer of 1 and 2 tweeted this thread today in response to a review that left her name out of the producers and how it's become Brad Miska's V/H/S series. https://x.com/rox_anne_b/status/1730609383615136091?s=20 I really preferred the earlier ones.

The first couple of entries were probably just a perfect storm of a ton of talented indie filmmakers working together before they had their breaks. That and just the right time and place for an interesting idea and play on the found footage genre. Nowadays the gimmick just feels forced.

Safe, the movie where Julianne Moore becomes convinced that she's hyper allergic to all chemicals and radio waves or whatever, is incredible and a great movie for "this is horrifying but uses basically no horror aesthetic or tropes." It's also unique because it's horrifying to put yourself in the shoes of everyone else, Moore is the protagonist and she's unaware of how insane she is.
