Many foreign care workers had already been thinking of quitting Britain for similar jobs elsewhere before the home secretary announced on Monday that dependants of new applicants would no longer be welcome. So even if care and health are exempt from the new earning requirements, many will still leave because as rightly stated, who wouldn't want to live with their families? If people think things are bad now, it's going to get a hell of a lot worse

I recall some of the right were openly talking about a "Qatar style solution" to all the migration bullshit they themselves have invented, where you have a two tier system of citizens and people with no rights who can gently caress off before they affect are precious culture. This is part of the 'finding out' stage of that.

I don't want to give any false hope as I haven't looked into things completely, but when I came over under the old visa rules (managed to apply like a month before the minimum income threshold went into effect) my entire path through the visa system remained under the old rules (including when and how I could apply for ILR). That said, the changes they're proposing are so inhumane that I don't know if they'll somehow manage to force people onto the new minimum income threshold halfway through their track to ILR when they file for the extension. It would be abhorrent but, that's sort of by design. edit: Found some more info, seems like the Home Office thinks it shouldn't apply at renewal but Sunak does. https://www.ft.com/content/44667d25-13ab-4d20-bc67-b5ac414c1dc2 Monsters. She is going for her Biometrics today and we have already sunk a chunk of money into this process, and honestly, I dont have anything to say to make her feel better about this. I still think the UK is a better option than the US, given the healthcare costs and other societal issues the US has, and the fact that I run a business and its not transferable. But that said, the lack of clarity on all of this leads me to ask, are we just wasting our time and money? Would Labour be likely to reverse all of this horrible poo poo if it does go through? Will it stand any chance of not being challenged and blocked in court? I just dont know.

Remember after the Brexit vote how some newspapers would go find business owners who voted for Brexit who said that there business was going under because they couldn't hire migrant workers/they no longer had access to EU funding/the cost of exporting was pricing them out of the market? Like it felt good for schadenfreude, but it didn't change any of their minds. Not enough to make a difference. I'd say even bringing these people over to Rwanda to see what it is really like isn't going to change their minds, since they won't be living it.

Sunak and co are actually completely out of step with voters on immigration - see below. The thing you have to remember is that voters are not senior Tories' audience at the moment, everything they are doing is part of a battle to win their membership over. Also Farage. Not saying you will get any better from Labour though. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/nov/03/most-british-people-hold-positive-view-of-immigration-survey-reveals

Labour canvassers came round to our block last night. I arrived home to the front door of the block just as they were ringing all the different bells. Sadly, one very confused elderly lady of 94 years of age (who we believe - not medically qualified opinions - is showing signs of dementia) came to the front door of the flats in the freezing cold & rain in her pjs. As they were bamboozling the old lady with questions like "do you vote" (I mean it was pretty obvious to me that even if you didn't know the old lady which I do, that she wasn't quite with it - she's also quite deaf - wasn't the best thing to be doing). I said to the canvassers (one of whom was the candidate in the next GE and who I know). I was asked if I would be voting Labour and I said no - I used to be a member. Then the other canvasser asked me why I had stopped and I said they way they treated Corbyn and also Starmer's stance on Palestine which is a very important personal issue for me, she said she fully agreed (but is still in Labour!) and as I went in she said "From the river to the sea!" I thought she better look out saying things like that in the Starmeroid party.

Amazing stuff as the government publishes their "Rwanda is safe bill" immediately prompting Rwanda to say they will pull out as it breaches international law. Also the immigration minister resigned.
