Tried out a Headhunter Autogun last night and man that is a gun that is in a really awkward and mediocre spot, it has terrible default sights for its role, deals middling damage for an anti-elite & specialist role, is too slow firing and small clip size for dealing with hordes, not to mention has an absolutely pathetic ammo pool for a Veteran gun that isn't a shotgun, revolver, bolter, or plasma gun

How much new stuff has been added to VT2 to keep it active over the years. I'm loving dorktide now, but I hope they've got a strong pipeline of fresh stuff (like new tree options and missions). I don't mind paying for DLC and stuff, just keen to get an idea of how well supported VT2 is with new things to do.

Got back into this and the lightning staff feels really bonkers all of the sudden. The charge is now crazy fast, and I got one with the talent that makes charging faster and boy do I feel it. I used to remember it flinching the charging dudes and it doesn't seem to quite get there anymore after 1 fully charged shock, but otherwise the damage is much higher than I remember. The primary attack is no poo poo like 3 times faster too I thought it was a bug. Slightly smaller damage but the faster rate really surprised me. Like 3 shots per second now, when it used to be like 1.25 shots/sec. Just to try and compare I went back to my old fireball staff build and it feels... fine. About the same, but somehow weaker now because lighting staff was putting in real work. The autoaim crystals feel about the same. Fine for ranged squads and clearing scragglers as you move but otherwise too fiddly for me in heavy combat scenarios. Always seems to miss the guy right in front of me, despite me aiming at him. I kill everyone behind him but still get smacked in the face lol Good patch. Love the smug twins. Fun mechanics and how fast they charge around. Theyre scary but very fair. You can dodge and stalemate one pretty well but thats all you're doing. The adds will eventually overwhelm

It's a weird situation as on the tabletop plasma/bolt weapons are treated as being straight-up better than las/stub firearms in just about every respect; Darktide has done a pretty good job at making most of its loadout feel balanced but most players will opt for the kickass everything-mulcher over a high-powered flashlight. (Fatshark should have tied all the "cool" wargear into special abilities like they did with VT2's Engineer, allowing players the thrill of a limited power trip without having to step all over the mundane arsenal)

at least for the mk12 lasgun, i think buffing its damage to two shot shooters in the body and upping its maniac damage on headshots would do a lot to bring it back to that iconic status as an unspectacular but still very reliable weapon. right now even the laspistols are contenders to it because they're oddly powerful and a lot faster to shoot i do wonder how they'll rebuff the bolter though, i still think most of its power then was tied to volley fire's instant ready and reload
|
# ? Dec 20, 2023 04:22 |

Exe stance still goves the near instant ready up, and fwiw i prefered Bring It Down (anti ogryn/monster version of volley fire) because with the elite/spec kill increases reload feat you could just finish a reload and kill something anyway with the bolter. Bolter def needs some love tho, there's just too much stuff to kill and it doesn't quite do enough anymore.

As a big mk12 fan from release and a big fan of the laspistol now, I tried to go back to the mk12 and try it out and it's just trash in comparison. The laspistol (and probably the resolver) need to be way less accurate at beyond mid range. You're right about the mk2 needing to be able to 2 shot shooters.

Bolter shots should pass through mooks and do an AoE explosion when they hit a hard target.

VT2's received a consistent set of updates including new classes (paid for), maps (some free, some not), a new game mode alongside a new faction (very mixed reception, especially since it was paid and the faction was initially pretty bad), and an entire roguelike mode that was dropped out of nowhere (almost universally well-received). Several of these updates also happened after Darktide's release, with the final class released this December.

Had some dialog last night between a Zealot and Psyker about the possibility of the Sisters of Battle coming to Tertium, unlike some of the dialog we've had about various Abhuman types I doubt this means much of anything if mostly because Zealot already pretty much covers everything a playable Sisters class would bring to the table Though thinking on it we don't really have any Mission Control characters who are centered around the more religious aspects of the Imperium aside from Hadron and the new Tech Priest guy whose name I don't remember, so having a Sister or other church type around would be a fun new angle to have drrockso20 fucked around with this message at 07:54 on Dec 20, 2023 |

got myself an ideal cowboy revolver and uh...i fuckin hated it. maybe it's better for zealot but the extremely spotty accuracy past a certain range issue really kneecaps that weapon bad vs the OG revolver, and speccing into volley fire doesn't do enough to make it more accurate. yeah, faster reloads are cool and fanning mode is great for bursting down poo poo, but in practice the OG revolver usually needs a single clean headshot to kill anything less than a mauler, and at close range it's fairly simple to do just that. ironically my gameplay is a lot faster and mobile with the OG revolver vs the cowboy revolver, since with the latter im usually just menacingly walking in fanning stance most of the time as opposed to quickshots with the OG

Maybe if it had like 2 more bullets per reload it'd be decent but as it is the OG revolver can reliably kill 4 or 5 specials per reload while the new one can maybe kill 2 unless you get super lucky on the bloom. It doesn't help that the OG revolver's projectiles are the size of a fist which makes it really easy to hit weakspots with, while the fan revolver doesn't get that feature.

So I've played about 5 hours of Darktide across the past couple days, and...it seems pretty solid! I made a Veteran because I figured it would be a good starting class (and because I like ADS). I didn't think there would be options to pick a background (though I don't know if it makes any difference; maybe it changes dialog?). Even as a Veteran with the basic shovel, though, you can really just hack packs of poxwalkers into bits. I think the customized character personalities are fine, at least from what I've seen so far. As mentioned, though, most other players seem to be Vets, so you get uneven parties with two or three of the same type of character. I don't know if it can make games uneven on higher difficulties, but on Malice (the highest I've played so far), it seems to be fine. I'm interested in trying the other classes; Zealots seem like they're more melee-focused, and they get Thunder Hammers and Flamers, so that'll be fun. Something that sort of disappoints me is the cosmetics. I haven't seen much for Zealots/Ogryn, but for Vets, it seem like most of the cosmetics are just variants of the Cadian armor. I thought I remembered seeing cosmetics for Krieg or Steel Legion, but those were either mods, or they're part of the cash shop, and aren't currently in the rotation (right now it's Rogue Trader stuff). Psykers seem to get the coolest looking stuff. Difficulty-wise, the first two setting seem a little too easy from what I played. The first game of Malice I played, we got wiped out. The second (and third?) went fine, though I got downed a few times and died. I imagine once you hit the level cap, playing on Sedition makes for a fun, super-casual time, but until then, the EXP payout doesn't seem worth it. Have to play more, because I know there's more I want to talk about, and I'm sure I'll find more faults once I put more time in (only big fault I have so far is that Chaos Spawns are in the game), but I'm liking it pretty well, and it also makes me want to give Vermintide 2 another shot to try the DLC for it.

The steel legion outfit just rotated off the cash shop. I think the vet gets some good outfits via unlocks tbh. I like to rock the freedom fighter scarf and goggles kind of look. Agree that a lot of it is Cadian/shock trooper styled. If you want the best hats play a psyker.

I rolled up a new Zealot so I can get twice the weekly rewards while playing my favorite class. There is nothing quite like doing a level 4 mission when everyone is level 10-11. Way harder than any maelstrom damnation run. Everyone has 2 wounds and you really have to bring your A game in every encounter. 5 Maulers spawned? Well, don't let a single drat one of them hit you. A pox walker takes 2 face stabs to bring down, don't get swarmed. Toughness regen? slooooooow, and that's if you hang together. A useful level 1 blessing is a life saver. The game is way easier at level 30.
