The first famous TV person I spoke to was Bob Carolgees at a CITV quiz that was being filmed at Alton Towers in '85'. A friend and I snuck around the back during a filming break to ask for his autograph and ask where Spit the dog was. He blew a lungful of cigarette smoke in our faces, sighed, then turned around and walked away.

E: Sept 2014 this was uploaded, so well before he was even starting to get wet around the edges. I don't think Corbyn was even a candidate at this point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MRz9RPlsDQ I haven't rewatched it, but my recollection is that Osman wasn't primarily being defensive, he was pretty relentlessly laying in to him and there were a bunch of ambush questions that were basically "aren't you childish / a bit of a oval office for saying this thing." All of Osman's objections seem to come from that smug, centrist 'sensible grown-up' platform that would later take over comedy and monster Corbyn between 2017-2019. As I said, Boyle was extrordinarily patient and well thought out in his answers which just makes Osman look all the more like a spiteful, superior oval office about it. Also it's not 'Richard Osman in conversation with Frankie Boyle,' he was supposed to be interviewing him, not preaching at him like some kind of centrist Piers Morgan.

I was in the background of a shot where they were filming at a farm down my way, a few years ago. Also got stopped in the street when I was about 12 by someone reporting for one of those godawful Janet Street Porter lunchtime vehicles, to be asked "are young people embarassed about buying contraceptives" which I'd have been less embarassed about if there wasn't a camera in my face and my fundamentalist Christian mum wasn't just off camera scowling. I told them not to use the footage and they bloody well did as well. Bah The only other time I was on camera was being pulled in for a run-across-camera shot at the hotel I was staying at one holiday in France, for what we were told was a soap opera. They did about 7 takes of a car pulling up and a man and a woman getting out and going into the lobby. The odd thing about that one was that they were ridiculously cagey about the name of the production, and the hotel had a fake sign put up on the front of a different hotel just down the road. Only registered years later that it was probably a porno and they were trying to offload reputational fallout onto a rival.

Not saying I agree with him, Harvey being an adult with a developmental disorder is definitely the butt of the joke, twice. Some of his jokes, like the Barack Obama / bulletproof glass and Pope jokes are jokes about people with lovely opinions, but the joke in question really comes across as the work of someone with lovely opinions. But my point is that Osman comes across as angry and sanctimonious, whereas Boyle is calm and polite, which just makes Osman look like more of a oval office. Whatever Boyle might have said or done, I think Osman's behaviour in that video is pretty revealling.

When watching “black mirror, the Waldo effect” episode they have a close up of the crowd watching the candidate be interviewed and a reaction shot of one of my friends laughing at the response. I asked him about it as obviously this wasn’t a real show, it turns out he had been to a filming of “the last leg” or similar, and they used the audience shots from that to make it look like a real in-universe interview. A real look at how the sausage is made.

The audience in the room are a TV Festival so producers, BBC board members, etc. I'm pretty sure this is Osman making a bid for "I'm a sensible elder statesman of television, and should seriously be considered for Head-of-Programing/Comedy/Commissioning/whatever", half the things he says and questions he asks hint at that, and I think he wanted to very visibly take Frankie to task infront of this particularly audience and prove his "I can commission edgy, but would never go too far", and about half way through he realises he has utterly failed to make that point and softens up. As an aside on the frankie/corbyn thing - he makes clear in this interview that all his jokes are carefully selected, he speaks at length on this. So pretty damning in his own words on his relatively brief, but very publicly broadcast, 'magic grandpa is obviously an anti-semite' stint. I would hope that you don't agree with him, because "it's not about the victim, it's about the person using them as a shield" is literally the justification the IDF use for bombing hospitals in Gaza. It's perfectly OK to think that Osman is a prick if he is a prick, of course, but that doesn't make Boyle any better for not rising to it. Reasonable Hitler is a meme for a reason.

I have a theory that Jordan married a cage fighter cause she needed someone strong enough to stop Harvey from trying to gently caress her.’ very crass etc but not exactly comparable to using military aircraft to bomb hospitals full of people

So to be fair to Jedit, they weren't saying that that joke is like or as bad as bombing a hospital, they were saying that defending it by saying it's attacking Jordan with her son as the punchline enabling it and that's fine because she uses her son as a shield (which is Frankie Boyles defense of it apparently, I want to make it clear I don't think it is fine). Jedit's saying that is a similar logic to the one the IDF use in their rhetoric. IE "it's fine to attack someone even if there's collateral damage because they're just that bad". I'm not sure I see the logic in bringing it up however, there's better comparisons to make probably.
