change my name posted:It takes 16 kilos of grain to produce 1 kg of beef. This is saying that the 16 kg of grain could have fed people directly rather than being used to fatten up cows to only feed 2 people with the resultant 1 kg of growth. Now multiply that 16 kg of grain by however much a typical steer weighs i wonder if this 16:1 ratio is the total mass of the animal or if vegans think an 18 oz steak is a single serving
|
# ? Jan 3, 2024 22:12 |

seems like a ratio would work regardless of the weight maybe they picked 1kg to make it simpler than 0.283kg. it's impossible to know
|
# ? Jan 3, 2024 22:15 |
|
it's probably just a ratio of caloric content. for every 16 calories worth of grain, 1 calorie worth of beef is produced

Again the term is tropic level this is not a hard concept to understand
|
# ? Jan 3, 2024 22:22 |
I wonder if that's only taking into account the "good" parts of the cow. Maybe the ratio is actually much worse when you account for the USA hamburger peoples aversion to interesting textures. I have no reason for thinking this, though.

Do I have to eat the same grains that the cow would have eaten, or can I just chug almonds and California-grown rice?

Does the fact that cows don't have to eat grain factor into the equation at all? The only reason we feed cows grain is because of land costs and farmer welfare propping up the corn industry. There's more grift in penning up cows in a tiny lot and give some farmer welfare to farm corn so they can prop up the farm implement, fertilizer, and pesticide companies than there is in letting cows graze grass like they have for millennia.

I thought feeding grain/corn to cows caused more intramuscular fat. I swear just looking at 100% grass vs grain finished it's visibly different.
