Maybe if we build a single 500 trillion dollar superjet armed with really expensive missiles and chemical lasers (those are futuristic right?) that will be enough to intimidate everyone into sticking with USD for international settlements, thus allowing the flow of treasure to the imperial capital to continue unimpeded.

President Xi, my man, my pal, just want to have a feel for the situation, a vibe check if you will... How the People's Liberation Army Navy - a drat fine institution of revolutionary spirit if you ask me - is doing nowadays? Like, we are just letting the mind wander here for a bit, but say something happened in South Korea, you know, or maybe further south... What if you could do something really loving funny as an answer?

Its more likely the US lost the hegemony. If there was war on domestic territory it would be a totally different situation, but that probably will never happen. The old empire will stew in its corner of the world. As some person joked recently the soft landing is that we become like the UK. Hence the joke about the Falklands. They 'won' that war, but it was clear from how it went down that its power had waned so much it was no longer a serious global player.

A domestic microchip of any variety in the USA does not make a consumer good. There are a few more steps involved. And the microchips themselves kind of still need stuff from China. I joke about iphones of course but Raytheon weren't keen on it either.

Cerebral Bore posted:i see the us went for the old middle eastern boondoggle gambit, a real dying empire classic The great thing is also the USN has most of its assets either coming from, going to, or in the Middle East and has a single carrier group and some destroyers to take on China if push came to shove. Speaking of which the first Constellation frigate got delayed again, and it is going to be 2027 at the earliest before it can even be launched and perhaps 2029-2030 before it is fully operational. China has 4 frigates currently in the process of launching or fitting out. Ardennes has issued a correction as of 14:31 on Jan 12, 2024 |

The Constellation has got a 32 cell VLS, which admittedly, probably isn't going to be fully outfitted with anti-air missiles. Basically, it is going to run out of missiles (everything being equal) in about a third of the time as Arleigh Burke and therefore is just going to be a lot more vulnerable to swarm attacks. The LCS is a complete sitting duck and would have to be protected by other ships. Also, the issue for Russian equipment wasn't the tires, but they were stuck in several feet of mud at the time. Even great tires are only going to help so much. Ardennes has issued a correction as of 16:13 on Jan 12, 2024 |

You just need a larger number of good enough, smaller, ships rather than incredibly expensive ships that try to do everything. You disperse forces but mass fires.
