It depends on the TV. My TV will take freeview aerial or freesat spacedish straight into the back, but some won't. This also links into the UK wanting to be loving special Alan Sugar simps and not allowing modules in the CAM slot instead of boxes, unlike the rest of Europe and North Africa and anywhere else that has developed the wheel and fire.

Angrymog posted:On the other hand their treatment of women is up there with the Taliban's. Let's not pretend that they're happiness and flowers. Imperialist attacks on other nations are justified in different ways to different domestic audiences. To people concerned with process and institutions, the attacks are spoken of in terms of protecting markets, and upholding International Law. For people who see the world as a dangerous place and Britain surrounded by enemies, the attacks are spun as Britain bravely asserting itself against bad actors and demonstrating that we're a country that can still defend itself. And to people whose main concern is human rights... then the attacks become all about protecting those human rights. So wiping out unruly Afghan villages will be couched in terms of allowing Afghan girls to be educated; massacring Palestinians is all about protecting gay rights (yes Israel has literally claimed this in its recent propaganda) and sure, we're bombing the Houthis... but are you aware that their feminist credentials leave much to be desired? (Writing that has got me wondering what angle would be used to get someone like me on side. Some Paul Mason style argument that I should be showing solidarity with the working class people crewing the cargo ships and Royal Navy vessels perhaps, coupled with portraying Iran as an expanding empire that by rights, I should be opposing?) Also, this isn't an attack on you, Angrymog, your post got me thinking, is all.

I use Freesat from Sky (not the same as Freesat) as we can only get 6 Freeview channels here because the hills get in the way. Like, the Houthi's are trying a similar thing to the OPEC oil embargoes of the 70s - put economic pressure on the West to "rein in" their client state of Israel. This ignores that Israel is a nuclear state of its own that holds the whip hand in its relationship with the US, and the government and people both consist of genocidal maniacs. Israel will keep genociding Gaza until someone physically stops them - diplomatic pressure or even economic sanctions will do gently caress-all. Just more cycles of death and violence, like so many others currently in the world.

When I was young and living in London I had a job delivering mail in 1 Canada Square (the big Canary Wharf building) and Live TV that I think later became Babestation had an office on one of the middle floors. They had topless receptionists and even as a horny young guy it was one of the most mundane unsexy things

If they were using them for target practice I'd imagine there'd be a few deaths. As opposed to, at least the last time I checked, zero? Don't get me wrong, it sucks to be stuck in the middle of that but economic embargoes often cause collateral damage, to use the bloodless terms of diplomacy. How many civilians died in Iraq in the '90s from malnutrition & preventable illness in order to not even slightly threaten Saddam's rule? Apparently that was acceptable according to international law.

I don't personally expect the UK government to have a lawful reason for engaging in military actions against another nation, and I definitely don't expect them to achieve good results against an enemy spread quite thinly across an area twice the size of the UK. However, what I'm not sure that Rishi and the group of clinical morons advising him quite understand is that, when you go "to war" against a poorly-defined enemy, with minimally-defined goals and no populist support, you're encouraging quite literally everyone to join the pile-on the first time anything goes wrong. The Thatcher cosplay is getting less convincing, less inspiring and less remarkable. At the absolute minimum, Desert Storm 2 had the media embedded in the frontlines; this is just poo poo video taken from barely-functioning equipment.

I’ll drop the boat chat after this if it’s winding people up or not thread appropriate, but it really isn’t as clear cut as simply being Israeli owned/operated or whatever. The ships I’m on are on, like the Hangzhou are being targeted because our run across the world used to include a single port call in Haifa. That’s it. We don’t go there anymore but it doesn’t matter, the ships are now considered targets. There’s been ships attacked that never called in Israel but because they carried cargo that later ended up in Israel, they are now targets. The links in a lot of cases are pretty tenuous at best.
