just got some nice arabica dark roast from the grocery store, really strong spiced flavor. it's not the greatest stuff in the world but I really enjoy it for the price/availability

This dark roast Ethiopian blend is crazy good. It has that deep berry-ish taste front and center but the other notes are otherwise mild. Perfect for drinking a small amount in the late afternoon imo.

The worst part about black coffee is waiting for it to cool enough to drink and hoping I don't forget about it entirely and it gets too cold Watching a cup now, waiting for the right temperature

I've never had a dark roast outside of espresso, would you folks recommend it for normal filtered coffee?

smoobles posted:I've never had a dark roast outside of espresso, would you folks recommend it for normal filtered coffee? if all you like in coffee is a rich chocolatey taste on the bitter end of the spectrum, (or burned taste if you have trash beans like like Kicking Horse or Starbucks dark), then yeah, darker roasts. if you want more floral notes and acidic/sour taste, then go lighter for your filtered coffee. personally I prefer light roasts even for espresso Bilirubin posted:train your heat pain receptors by burning them out

Imo it's good when a bean has a really intense flavor that might need to be toned down or it might be a touch rough on the stomach. Most dark roasts are not very good though and the really dark stuff is basic or trash

My absolute favorite beans have all been light roast. dark roast is newbie bait
