I will take tepid and not popular, maintains the status quo dem over Trump any day, and any progressive or leftist who claims its all the same is being disingenuous. My voting strategy will change once Trump is dead and no longer a threat.

Sadly, even after Trump passes from this mortal coil, our choices are still going to be "the party that has demonstrated it wants us all to die if we aren't rich and white", or the dems. I seriously doubt that we will ever have a viable 3rd party candidate in my remaining lifetime.

I still think if Biden had run in 2016 he would have beaten trump easily and trump would have slunk off to do his tv channel which would inevitably fail after a year or two.

That said almost any dem candidate probably could have out performed Hilary.

Basically Beau’s cancer hosed the country.

I agree, Biden sucks especially regarding Palestine. I don't understand who you plan to support THAT COULD ACTUALLY DO ANYTHING in the presidential election besides Biden. He's wrong but he's willing to listen and change course. Trump won't do right, ever.

Trump will help destroy Palestine. Third party candidates won't win. Like, it's not up for debate, they can't win (America is broken). So either you accelerate the collapse (trump), or you duct tape the place together (Biden).

I don't understand the thought process here.

Just a reminder that anyone disappointed by Biden should participate in the Democratic party primary process. It sucks that you live in a country where the general election for a president is an especially weird first past the post process, but abstaining does nothing to change that system so vote for the least bad viable candidate in that general election.

It is important to remember that the average American voter literally does not give a poo poo what happens in other countries, unless it directly affects them personally. Biden isn't going to lose any more support over I/P than he would over Ukraine, or indeed anywhere else major conflicts are going on that don't directly involve American troops in the fighting.

Yeah Biden was the tolerable non-Trump vote that was vaguely remembered as being Obama's VP and didn't come off as a rear end in a top hat to most.

Virtually no one loved or liked him that much when voting for him. They just wanted a non-insane somewhat competent leader instead of a narcissistic reality show host.

I don't much like Biden now though I will say he has been less poo poo than I thought he would be. Getting worked up over his foreign policy decisions at this point is dumb. Every president, and I think presidential candidate with a half way reasonable shot at the office, since at least most of the post WWII era has generally had bad to poo poo foreign policy.

Remember when people were claiming he was gonna be done for in the next election, due to how quickly Afghanistan collapsed when the US finally withdrew? It's not even a blip in the news media any more.

I don't get why the result yesterday seems to be universally considered bad for Trump here. He got a full majority in what was an ostensibly 4-person race (sorry Chris Chris). It wasn't an overwhelming victory you might predict if you start with the assumption that Trump is these peoples' god and former president, but it seems to be in line with the target he was expected to hit to pick up the nomination. It also seems hard to correlate to actual election turnout because people likely assumed Trump would win by a comfortable margin no matter what and it was cold as balls out. I don't buy into the "lying media is just pushing Trump/Biden" excuse, both because I don't think it's fully true and because the media should actually be able to affect outcomes if that's really what they're trying to do.

Meanwhile, DeSantis focused on Iowa enough to push his zombie campaign across the finish line in second place. He and Nikki are close enough that neither will consider dropping out for a while, and Nikki getting third isn't great for her "only viable Trump alternative" position. It seems more possible that she'll underperform now in New Hampshire and her chances for Super Tuesday were never good. Right now I expect Trump to win NH with Haley a bit behind and DeSantis in distant third, but if DeSantis can pivot enough to siphon off enough of her votes he could keep pulling her down long enough to sink her.

At this point that makes it pretty likely that Trump gets the nomination, and Republicans are good at holding their noses and following the 11th commandment. I think Biden is in an okay position to win but Trump would still have a path to victory. There's a long time between now and November and plenty of room for October surprises or grinding recessions, so it makes me uneasy when I see a lot of 2016-style "yass slay king Joe," "actually, it's a good strategy for the Democrats to run against Trump because he's so unpopular" overconfidence. I don't know if that makes me a doomer or what.

My Joe Biden opinion is that he promised nothing to me in 2020, delivered a decent amount more, and attempted to do more than that but was thwarted by forces outside of his control. Also if he's on the ballot in November I'll vote for him because the people on the other side act as if they're literally indwelt by demons.

Trump is going to be the Republican candidate barring something really crazy happening or him dying.

Vivek wasn't white enough for Republicans.

A lot of Republicans won't vote for a woman, even if she's a Republican.

DeSantis is too loving weird but he's probably hoping Trump goes to jail or dies at this point.

Not really a shock, that's what the Republican party is now. It's loud, crazy, dumb as hell, and probably about 10% of the people who voted last night won't survive til November anyway.

At the end of the day, Trump should have won by way more than he did.

He was already president. People know exactly what they would get from him in an election and a presidency. And yet, only a small fraction of Republican voters even bothered to show up to vote, and he only got half of the ones that did. He's going to fail or succeed on enthusiasm and this is a sign that the enthusiasm probably isn't there.
