gradenko_2000 posted:can someone explain to me the supposed benefits of threaded replies It's technically the oldest internet discussion format, and when you have a userbase who have a hard distinction between their online and offline time, an academic's habits re: categorization, R→C→P, and amount of reading they'll do a day, and crucially the ability for each user to split off threads with like-new visibility, which can be followed back to the main one but that the main one does not follow and clients remembering where they were in each, and usually proactively surfacing new activity in places you've interacted it lets you freeform categorize things by subtopic very well. Social media hardfails at the second to show you more ads, and reddit/reddit-alikes hardfail at both to show you more ads and because it's in the end tied to canonical HTTP addresses and server-side sorting rather than being a linear chronological stream of posts your client then threads based on the relational tags they include, before even getting into whether people could or would post like that again if they had functional tools to.

https://www.wpxi.com/news/local/pittsburgh-regional-transit-reduce-service-over-20-routes-t-lines-next-month/LDVNYAEQ2NEXBOJTPM5U2QUMJE/ 20+ bus routes cut, light rail line service cut supposedly due to staffing shortages (which they are entirely in control of). The destruction of public transit continues apace, we've got less than half the coverage we had in 2000 and in ten years we'll have some shuttle buses to and from the student ghetto and that's about it.

We literally just spent $1.3b to build an eight mile extension of an expressway in the unpopulated southwest portion of Allegheny County based on population projections from the early 1980s https://www.paturnpike.com/news/details/2023/05/23/pa-turnpike-celebrates-construction-of-next-mon-fayette-expressway-phase no money for transit though

Why would I ever use public transit when I could walk into my local Ford dealership and buy an F-350 Child Crusher instead?

meanwhilequote:The way this sub talks about public transit, and sometimes public services in general, is mentally ill. I'm not saying that lightly, I don't mean it as a joke. There's just no other phrase that describes the behavior I'm seeing in this thread and in other threads in the past. "Gotta keep inconveniencing the lower class" is an insane thing to say about an organization that, like many other transit agencies, is suffering from a well-documented operator shortage. Cutting routes is literally the only thing they can do in the immediate term. Finding, hiring, and training new operators takes time. I sure as poo poo know y'all don't want random morons driving buses without any training. loving relax. There is no perfect way out of this mess, but you're not loving helping by behaving this way. Do you think the state and federal government want to provide the transit funding this region sorely needs if all they see is you making GBS threads on PRT? Do you think the best and brightest minds in public transit would want any loving thing to do with us if all they see is you making GBS threads on people trying their best in a difficult, no-win situation? I don't. And yet you wonder why it's so hard for things to get better when you do nothing but attack the people trying to improve them. Take some deep breaths and accept the fact that you just might not know better than everyone else. service here is literally less than half of what it was in 2000, I don't think it's mentally ill to ask for the same level of bus service we had twenty-four loving years ago

Just a bunch of feckless dipshits more interested in political maneuvers within their tiny bucket of crabs and tit-tatting over the accuracy of last session's meeting notes then they were actually even pretending like they were going to do or organize something impactful.

It was purchased by healthcare corporation of America that is completely running into the ground. It’s just starting to come out right now that they’re in danger of losing Medicare plus Medicaid reimbursements because of how many “adverse effects” they’ve had over the past couple years. They simply will not hire Enough, nurses staff, CNA, respiratory therapist, to safely provide care. And the way they reimbursed doctors through RVUs is based on how many procedure you perform because they can build more for those. But if you don’t have enough rooms, you don’t have nurses, you don’t have enough people that can exercise people, you can’t do any procedures. The result of this hospital cannot hire we doctors. Ortho gets whatever it wants tho! Even a PA to work nights, preop everyone, and sets bones in the lobby because we don’t have enough nurses to bring them back to rooms. It’s me. I was that night PA

i got an email from the dept of education telling me to tell any of my friends that got laid off that they should apply to be teachers if they already have a valid license this is pretty crazy cause a teachers license is onerous and expensive to obtain and then needs to be maintained with professional development so maybe theres a decent number of people that got trained but left for a real job in some industry in the recent past and now they want to rehire them as teachers after they got laid off? idgi otherwise
