Protip for newer players that I just did myself today: Every time you Ascend a character at levels 20/40/60 you get a free Silver ticket. If you want a bunch of Silver tickets at a relatively cheap price, I suggest you level everyone in your roster to at least 20 and then Ascend. Just got like 20 tickets for a few hundred thousand credits (you also spend some level mats).

You know something I've been thinking about that's kind of funny to me that through the last couple weeks or so and all the chatter and punditry out there about the difference in rewards between HSR and Genshin is that none of the pundits out there seem to have stopped to consider that, since Genshin and HSR have the same pity system and drop rates, that 13 pulls for Genshin 4.4 and 20 pulls for Star Rail 2.0 likely results in the exact same 2x 4 star gets for like 99% of the people that claim the bonuses across either game. Like I feel like in realizing this I'm one of the few people that just can't be asked to give a right gently caress about "the difference in generosity" between the games. They're both kind of on the crap end of the spectrum when it comes to pull rates.

By the final credits I felt like I lost something and characters I didn’t give a gently caress about initially felt almost more important than the original cast (outside Mei since she was part of it). I am exceedingly psyched to see this next story piece with that writer doing it. Perhaps players outside HI3 can feel the pain that we know and love too.

While I understand that you all mean it as praise, I feel like a story making you care about the characters it introduces is the absolute bare-minimum for acceptable storytelling. Like, the fact that you're implying you didn't care about them until later in the story is honestly a little worrying? So you're saying this writer is bad at introducing new characters but decent at following-through, I see, I see.

It's more like you're 3 seasons into a show and suddenly season 4 cold opens with an entirely new cast except for the POV character and one supporting character. Why would you care about 11 strangers and 1 Fu Hua (who is a saved simulation from 5,000 years ago so not the one you know) at the start? We wanted to know what happened after the Herrscher of Domination was defeated!!

The Elysian realm made the very ambitious move of introducing a dozen new characters right after some huge main story stuff happened. It wasn't perfect but I wouldn't call it poorly executed by any means. It's more that the timing made the bar for getting players to care was much higher than usual. It's also worth noting that HI3 traditionally expanded the cast much, much more slowly than Genshin or Star Rail, so expectations were different from that angle as well.

It wasn’t quite like it’s been said - HI3 has a core cast that you care about which is set up pretty early. HI3 in a nutshell was built around a main trio and a few others orbiting them. This is in contrast to something like Genshin for example where there’s always some new character and the main character literally doesn’t matter. However for this Elysian Realm arc you were introduced to like 12 characters and at first they seemed like they were only there for mechanics in the then-new rogue like mode (named Elysian Realm). By the end though, over the course of a year, the old main characters were essentially absent minus one of them (Mei) and as they (don’t read if you intend to play this yourself) are deleted one by one in acts of self sacrifice you are like “fuuuuck, no!” culminating with an amazing animated scene to cap it all off. It not only built up the characters introduced but also some good lore about the previous era (50k years before the current story). So while yes I think caring about the characters is essential, here it was a surprise since they dumped out so many at once, which really no one wanted, and by the end it was very easy to be attached to them. Unfortunately that was the last arc I was really thrilled with. I kept going and a month ago I finally quit after over three years and an account that can retain Nirvana. Sucks since I really loved what that game used to be. So to see the writer from my favorite arc is in HSR makes me especially happy after that loss.

I do think this game is lesser for not following HI3's model. I was hoping that starting off and based off early leaks we'd have a tighter core cast. It's my favorite aspect of HI3 and I'm sad Mihoyo turned away from it. Sure they went with it to save on modeling as they just reuse the base model a lot, drat it, having a smaller cast has me so much more attached to them than any character in Genshin or SR could ever hope to match. Dan Heng's upgrade got my hopes up early on that after some establishing they'd try and split the difference between HI3 and Genshin, but the fact that we are still getting 2 characters a patch means I'm an idiot for hoping. We even have a core trailblazing party and they are less developed than Sushang and Guinaifen even with Daniel's "focus".  e: ask me about part 2 starring some entirely new chars and not Susannah.

Welt’s kinda died and come back to life twice in HI3 before so I don’t think he’ll ever die. Himeko dying would feel hollow as we barely even know her. Firefly is definitely raising all the death flags though.

I'm not sure if anyone else even cares anymore. Edit: This was not aimed at the post above me. Mere coincidence. Right now, I'm trying to convince myself not to pull Sparkle. I think I'm just going to hold all judgment until the 1.1 program so I can evaluate her against Adventurine. There's still Sam and Screwllum, but until I know their official kits, I'm holding off on making a decision.
