Anyone here seen the movie Rawhead Rex? It has this murderous, rampaging monster that mind control's this priest to such an extent that the priest lets the monster piss on him. That's the current relationship between the Republican party and Trump.

Early on in the war, in a previous version of this thread, the Russia Understanders were aghast at the idea of Ukraine doing the same thing, because Russia would never run out of manpower and have to resort to it.

Crippling the energy infrastructure during winter seems pretty wild. Especially when Russia is attempting to do the same and this is essentially a retaliatory strike. Overall breaking the back of the Russian energy sector through the use of destruction of oil terminals as well as energy transfer stations will be very difficult to mitigate overall. Especially since so much of the production is being moved towards the war. That some of these things are not exactly user replaceable parts. And they are extremely special. The inability for Russia to make these parts may significantly hinder its ability to continue wartime production if it doesn't have the energy infrastructure to support it. It is the most viable target on the market right now and overall it will cause essentially a wave of dissent. Through power outages job start to dry up a little bit. Rolling blackouts that are larger than what occurs now may be very detrimental to the state apparatus which relies so much on internet and television to broadcast its message.

Pretty interesting troubling times for Russia.

Ukraine is not targeting energy infrastructure, they're targeting Russian energy export infrastructure. That's a major distinction. They're not trying to freeze out the population and getting them to dissent, that wouldn't be very effective, besides Russia is by itself already unable to keep their energy infrastructure running. No Ukraine is basically using drones to impose sanctions on Russian energy exports.

Are there any realistic ways the US can supply weapons and material without specific congressional funding? Like for example, the US transfers stuff to NATO, NATO in turn transfers it to Ukraine.

I know there's been talk about using seized Russian assets - why isn't that a no brainer?

Who's saying that? That's not a monke quote is it.

quote:

Three arrested for exporting military goods to Russia
Suspects based in the Netherlands circumvented EU sanctions imposed in response to Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine

In January 2024, Dutch, German, Latvian and Lithuanian authorities conducted an action day against criminals suspected of circumventing EU sanctions against Russia. Europol and Eurojust supported this investigation, which led to the arrest of three suspects as well as several house and business premises searches. Investigations revealed that a Dutch company were ordering dual-use goods from Germany, and then shipping them directly to Latvia and Lithuania. From there, the goods would cross the border into Russia. Exporting such goods could be classified as a breach of the EU’s massive and unprecedented sanctions imposed against Russia in response to Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

No, not really. The current situation is caused by the "need" to ensure that US stocks are full after sending material off to Ukraine, which requires funding orders to replace said material. That funding is what has run out. There's something like $4 Billion of Presidential Drawdown funds still available, but the WH won't use it because stocks have to be replenished. Ignoring that the US has in excess of 3,000 M1s sitting in fields, unassigned to any commands. Or that the purpose of the European stockpile(s) is/was to fight the Russians/Soviet Union should they decide to go West.

Still blows my mind that the party of Reagan is now gleefully suckling on the Russian teat.

Yeah, the visually confirmed losses near Avdiivka are incredibly lopsided.

https://twitter.com/naalsio26/status/1751037692521980174?s=20

Remember that video from the start of the Ukrainian counteroffensive when Ukraine lost a couple Leopards and several Bradleys and Russia gloated about it for weeks? Now imagine if Ukraine had done that every single day for weeks and months.

To be clear, I'm still very concerned about the upcoming year and Russia holds a lot of advantages right now, most importantly they have a lot more equipment to lose in the first place. But drat if they aren't doing their level best to squander that advantage.

New Perun on the Russian winter offensive.

"If it had been Ukraine launching the offensive at Avdiivka, suffering the same losses as the Russians have, we would probably be describing it as an incomprehensible, catastrophic Ukrainian failure. But for Russia, with its larger equipment reserves, we've just kind of gotten used to it."

"Saying your industry could supply thirty thousand artillery rounds per day is a flex. Saying that your military needs to fire thirty thousands rounds a day for five months to take a town is not"

⚡️ the russians are trying to advance in the east of Ukraine, but they have not had any strategic success.

This was stated by the speaker of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Volodymyr Fityo.

"They are trying to continue their offensive actions in the vicinity of Synkivka and Tabaivka. The large loss of equipment shows that the offensive is actively being carried out precisely thanks to the support of enemy equipment," Fityo noted.
