Stranger Things started strong but then the fanbase was all YAY NOSTALGIA and they leaned more into that than the plot. I don't give a gently caress about period accurate pudding give me a good story and i'll somehow suspend disbelief.

One of those very, very low-end building block toys had an official Stargate set several years ago. I only ever saw them at Big Lots. Yeah, it was a fun concept, McKay and Sheppard think they're playing some Ancient game, whereas in fact they are dictating to these primitive societies through Ancient tech who follow their commands as Oracle/Gods. And the societies evolved in the image of their Gods - McKay's country became focused on scientific advancement (and praising Rodney), and Sheppard's became more militaristic.
