The Taurus didn't offer much for drivers craving the sport sedan experience. That changed with the 1989 debut of the Ford Taurus SHO (for Super High Output), a Q-ship of the finest order that offered up a high-revving Yamaha-designed V-6 engine and a tight sport suspension.

yeah the funny thing is not that his career tanked, it's that Americans are so insane they made a 14-year-old boy the highest-paid player in MLS and then contractually obligated his team to play him in every match for hooting crowds of men waving signs sponsored by Home Depot

My absolutely most favorite thing about MLS/American soccer fans are the scarves. They saw a bunch of English teams, which play through the winter, selling team themed scarves and thought "ah, scarves are a soccer thing" and so you end up with a bunch of morons wearing scarves in Miami in july.

I just read about it. $500,000 a year for a 14 year old. What the gently caress.

Florida clubs at least sell summer scarves that are very lightweight.

Every once in a while people will float the idea of MLS teams playing in libertadores. It's idiotic and should never happen. But god it would be amazing to see one of these dweebs showing up at like the Monumental de Nunez.

Vice article from 2016 sums it up so nicely:

"When I try to pinpoint why Robby Branom makes me feel uncomfortable, I can think of lots of reasons. Perhaps it's because, like so many depressing forces at work in this country at the minute, he represents a yearning for an England that never really existed. Perhaps it's because his own childlike and apparently cynicism-free love for the game puts the desperate, angst-ridden seething I feel twice a week into sharp and unflattering relief. But perhaps it's just because it looks like a lot of unnecessary work trying so hard to be someone else. It feels like he's turned his persona into an apology for America's lack of soccer tribalism, made himself a screaming totem to his own internal neuroses about whether or not MLS fans are doing fandom in the "correct" way. He makes me feel uneasy in the same way that actors in "immersive theater experiences" do—you wanna grab his face and shake him around, tell him that it's OK, that he doesn't have to pretend anymore."

I'm sure he's a fine fellow in everything, but good lord.

The interview video is also amazing if you haven't witnessed it yet. It gives off strong Todd Margaret "my dad lived in Leeds" vibes and is especially hilarious because he is really struggling to keep up his fake English accent:

you say that like they couldn't sell half-and-half scarves to them for 1 (one) US$ each and become the single richest business in Argentina
