Chuds seem to be interpreting Tucker's shopping video as evidence of how badly Biden has managed the economy in the US. It lets them believe that their grocery bill wouldn't be nearly as high had Biden not run the money printer into overdrive and that we too could feed a family of 4 on pennies if the democrats just got out of the way. These goobers are from Canada but it reminds me of similar misconceptions. https://twitter.com/I_am_Toro__/status/1758124013115871375?t=ZCLGZtKx4ESVTY3tZHu3mQ&s=19

My favorite one of these is weirdo conservative Catholic guy Rod Dreher moving to Hungary since it has been hailed as a refuge for ‘true conservatives’. He then proceeds to piss off Viktor Orban with some question at a press thing by asking an inconvenient question of Orban

This was an interesting link in that twitter thread. During the great depression, 1931. Russia was advertising for Americans to come and work. How it started... "In the first 8 months of 1931, a Soviet trade agency in New York advertised 6,000 positions and received more than 100,000 applications. 10,000 Americans were hired in 1931, part of the official "organized emigration"." "In March 1932, The New York Times reported that immigration to the Soviet Union was 1000 a week, but increasing." How it ended... "By 1937, many of the Americans were arrested alongside untold numbers of Soviet citizens. Some were executed. Others were sent to "corrective labor" camps in the Gulag where they were worked to death. As documented by Tzouliadis, they were essentially abandoned by the U.S. government and its diplomats in Moscow." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forsaken:_An_American_Tragedy_in_Stalin%27s_Russia e: speaking of Russia, Navalny has died in prison. https://twitter.com/highbrow_nobrow/status/1758498806025372088 OgNar fucked around with this message at 16:35 on Feb 16, 2024 |

Perhaps a "Marcos killing Aquino sparking the People Power movement and Aquino's wife then becoming president after the overthrow" situation could happen. Not holding my breath by any means, but it would be a nice echo of history.

The continued existence of American conservatism is already on a clock because people have free access to knowledge about how history works, so I can see why they're terrified of young people learning all that poo poo in school without going out of their way to find it. There's the photo of Matt Gaetz out of his work attire and he looks much more human and much less like a weird plastic man. I think this guy is suffering from a similar effect - imagine him with like, a tshirt and a hat or a beanie, half way through yammering about a game he played or whatever. He's got the basic young male politician hair style, shorter on the sides and swooped backward up top, and that does not look good with his face shape, something more relaxed would make him less unnatural looking imo. Plus the tiny goatee isn't doing him any favors. I think of how conservatives will sometimes wear a cowboy hat or blue jeans to try and blend in with the normies. This is like the opposite of that.

There's a reason the Twitter Menswear Guy(tm) likes dunking on conservative politicians: many actually have no idea how to dress in a traditional suit in a way that's flattering to them, so they wear weird tight jackets or brown shoe/blue suit combos or skinny pants.

I kind of wondered if there's this Republican aesthetic of wearing an ill fitting suit and unflattering haircut for their head/face shape that just makes a lot of younger guys look like an adult baby. Because I think that's a big part of it based on what you said. What's funny is I feel like conservatives act like they're following clothing traditionally but it seems more like some cargo cult perception of how they thought people traditionally dressed because it often comes off as this dall-e uncanny valley facsimile of conservative dress.

This is a part of why so many of them would wear a trilby (while incorrectly calling it a fedora) until that became so universally mocked that it eventually petered out. Because Bogart wore one and he was classy and cool, so... The other part came from PUA circles and "peacocking".

Cancer still sucks for taking 70 years to take out a pill popping, chain smoking, alcohol swilling, fat gently caress with blocked arteries who refused to exercise. That's a shitbag that normally non-lethal diseases could take out. Cancer didn't really want it, and doesn't deserve the W.
