The questionaire literally had a question that was "how motivated are you by the prospect of working in a profit making environment" and it's like, what loving difference does that make to me? Apparently not picking the maximum option is enough for them to say "don't apply for any other position with us for six months" lmao.

If you're not walking around with a half chub about the abstract concept of line going up while at work then we do not want to see your face again.

Not all businesses are profit seeking and if you said that sort of poo poo in any charitable sector job you'd not be invited back. Just responding with "reasonably" or "quite" to "how hyped are you to be working at a PROFIT MOTIVATED and BRAND AWARE consumer partnership" seems more understandable. But then I'm not the kind of fool who thinks selecting for good liars in a customer facing position is a bonus.

Also there are other motivating factors in why you might choose a job. Like the pay, conditions, ease of commute.

As long as you do come to work and do your job properly it shouldn't matter why you do it.

I had this with a job interview years ago. It actually mystified the interviewer that "I actually find the job interesting" was more of a motivation than "Loadsamoney". It was a sales job that required a fair amount of product knowledge and attention to detail, so I spent a lot of my time clearing up the messes caused by the loadsamoney crew.

I think it was the TGI Friday application form that had the question "What makes you happy?" Which they surely must expect only lies on that one.

i think some of this profit maximising bullshit actually drives customers away, though

there are few things i hate more in a shop than the person at the checkout asking me if i want to buy x, sat there on the counter

with some exceptions* the person usually doesn't want to do it and that's obvious, and i sure as gently caress don't want to buy it, and that's obvious too. I avoid any place that makes people do that

* you do get the odd psycho who's really into it. I went into an off licence chain shop here (Winemark) some years ago to buy a bottle of wine for a present and the young woman in there was all over me at the start, hell bent on trying to get me to buy a ~£40 odd quid bottle of gin instead then her demeanour changed so quickly and dramatically when I declined to try a sample of that very gin at the counter (presented in one of those plastic medicine cap things that did not look very clean) that I just walked off and left the £10 bottle of wine on the counter lol

The trick is to be a regular enough alcoholic that the Winemark staff don't even try to upsell to you and just reach for the bottle of mid-priced but not desperate whiskey you always buy.

Yeah this is ridiculous and the people making the hiring decision there were morons. This question would always be stupid and is especially so at the Co-op!
