US Senator Sanders welcomes Biden’s airdrop plan

US Senator Bernie Sanders has welcomed the Biden administration’s plans to airdrop aid to Palestinians.

“I applaud President Biden for understanding that there is a dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza,” Sanders said on X.

“It is absolutely appropriate that the United States and other countries begin to airdrop humanitarian supplies at the scale and with the urgency that this crisis requires.”

Sanders has been one of the strongest critics of Israel’s war and the government of Benjamin Netanyahu in the US Congress.

you can't load planes up to their max weight and then dump it at once mid flight
the amount they can drop is less than what they can just move & need people who know how to do it without dying
air supply for a lot of people in a small space is hard

Gantz set to travel to US on trip not coordinated with Netanyahu who is said to be fuming — report
War cabinet minister Benny Gantz, head of the National Unity party, is set to travel to Washington on Sunday on a trip that was not previously coordinated with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Ynet reported tonight.

The upcoming trip has created tensions between Gantz and Netanyahu, whose associates were cited by Hebrew media as saying that the premier has “made it clear to Minister Gantz that the State of Israel only has one prime minister.”

They said the trip was organized without the prime minister’s approval and contrary to government regulations that require “every minister to clear travel in advance with the prime minister, including approval of the travel plan.”

no, not even remotely. this isnt an attempt at feeding anybody, its providing cover to the protracted starvation of the population by claiming they are providing aid.

they could bring aid to ports, they could bring aid by truck, they could it in huge amounts that provide relief to the million people in gaza. they are choosing to pick the least efficient method possible, which will leave untold thousands of people starving, because it will starve the people despite the "relief" provided. a system's purpose is always what it does, never what it claims

UK says vessel attacked west of Houthi-controlled port, crew evacuated

By REUTERS

CAIRO, Egypt — The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency says it received a report of an attack 15 nautical miles west of Yemen’s port of Mokha, where the Houthis that control much of Yemen have been attacking shipping lanes.

The crew took the vessel to anchor and were evacuated by military authorities,” UKMTO adds in an advisory note.

Also in northern Gaza City, Wafa reported that the latest round of Israeli air strikes killed at least 10 civilians and wounded five.

so your take on Galloway’s foreign policy is actually pretty correct. for his many flaws, he does appear to have a genuinely held opposition to Western imperialism, and really does support Palestinian resistance. That said, not all of his politics are good: I’m not sure about the grooming gang thing but he is very transphobic and undeniably a very mercenary person (the latter I can live with, the former is not forgivable and I’m surprised it’s not yet been mentioned).

I’m glad the candidates who support Nazisrael lost badly, and glad Galloway won largely on a pro-Palestine, anti-Zionist platform but that doesn’t mean he’s perfect and my trans comrades wouldn’t forgive me if I didn’t point that out.

So in conclusion he's not perfect, but he is a western politician genuinely opposed to imperialism, which makes him immeasurably better than literally every single other western politician and most of the western public.

I dunno, transphobia sucks a hell of a lot but given this context "unforgivable" in a way that "you can't live with" sounds like a purity test.

Like I think we gotta be materialistic in our analysis here as well. What exactly would do you propose to *do* here? Since the transphobia is unforgivable and can't be lived with, should he be removed from office, upon which he will inevitably be immediately replaced by an imperialist? Is that an improvement somehow? Or is the purpose here solely to tuttut an actual anti-imperialist with a tiny bit of political power so we can feel morally superior? Does that help anyone, really?

Personally I think westerners, including members of oppressed minorities from the west, can't put themselves first when it comes to opposing imperialism. That poo poo is too important for too many people, not to mention ever being able to achieve a socialist world, to have our own interests get in the way. We ought to stand in solidarity with anti-imperialists, and from that position of solidarity impress upon them our shared humanity. Take for example Talibs posting on twitter about lgbtq protests against Israel in the west and how they might have to reconsider some views. Solidarity is something you do, not say, and on soil fertilized with solidarity mutual respect can blossom. I am aware that this is easy for me to say, not being a member of an oppressed minority, but I really don't see a workable alternative here.

I pretty much agree with this, particularly the focus on what to actually do. In the case of Galloway, for example, I’m giving him critical support but I’m not going to rave about him or pretend he’s this brilliant person because he’s an anti-imperialist. We should expect more, and not fawn over every person who expressed pro-Palestine sentiments - critical support is the key.

on Galloway specifically, I think he’ll be great at disrupting the kayfabe in the HoC but long term I do worry that he’s going be dog poo poo for his constituents (he will be, he has a record of being an awful MP for his actual constituents), and more than likely will say some pretty cranky weird stuff. and not just weird, I mean Jews did 9/11 and trans women don’t exist sort of stuff, and having the loudest voice for Palestine in the UK saying insane poo poo may not help the cause in the long term. Overall, at the moment, I’m glad he was elected and will be defending him.
