Listen, I've been around a bit, you know, and I thought I'd seen some creepy things go on in the movie business, but I really have to say this is the most disgusting thing that's ever happened to me.

I thought keeping up with the Joneses was about having the same quality new fridge and matching countertops that your neighbors do, the stuff you listed sounds like "basic necessities" excluding loan payments that could include Affirm Fridge and Countertop Payment Plans

Childcare is cheaper here than in LA by a chunk but costs us about $1800/mo, so, of their people are living on 10k a month and putting 6500 into a mortgage I hope that they don't have kids.

Our biweekly grocery bills for a family of 4 are $3-500 now, as well.

I shop there often, and I don't look forward to not having a good, relatively cheap local option for uncut fabric

A nice kitchen is useful and the neighbors can't see it from the street. "Keeping up with the Joneses" is cars, boats, swimming pools, things that can be seen from the curb. There's no real intention to use them.

also I have no idea if it’s coincidence but at&t had that major outage and the telecom I work for revoked access for all offshore workers and gave them 30 days pay and gtfo citing security concerns, I actually feel like I have actual job security for the first time in a decade. So I’ve taken over responsibilities for those teams while we figure out how to hire more US personnel

joanns is really fuckin' depressing. we have one we go to sometimes for halloween costumes/decor and it's like a mottled late-stage k-mart in disarray, half the shelves blank, like 2 employees for hte store, everything fairly grimey. it's been that way for around 4 years and ive been expecting this for awhile now

not surprised

and yeah the store should have never been IPO'd, these stores like michaels/hobby lobby/whatever are not a perma-bull growth industry

we have a Michael’s near me and it’s the most depressing place. 90% seasonal garbage crowding out actual art supplies, one vaguely haunted employee wandering the floor. it’s hard to imagine a store that isn’t better

yeah joanns isnt that dissimilar except even more empty.

we have actual discount fabric warehouse stores around here so that's where we usually for for sewing projects. though man, fabric is loving expensive. its kinda crazy that its still much cheaper to buy clothes than to make one from a roll of fabric

Everything is still better than in 2019 and you don't have to worry. But also what is even the point of that graph, credit card utilization as a percentage of household income or just in absolute would be way more useful than as a percentage of credit limits, for all I know banks just doubled everyone's limits in the last 5 years.

Should have put the actual share for one group or the other.
