How much space would a pet donkey need? A woman around the corner from me has a small horse or pony she keeps as a pet on about a quarter acre block and it seems pretty happy.

As much as I want one they're not good solo pets. I'd have to get 2 or 3 or they'd get lonely even though I would love them so much and spend all my time with them.

Yeah, I've always heard the donkeys are especially prone to loneliness and really really need at least one friend who is around all the time. Another donkey is best, but I think they will be pretty happy with goats or sheep.

They seem to get on with just about anything if it's friendly enough, when I was a kid our friend Dave had a lovely donkey and it was friends with him and the goats and the barn cats and the dog and anyone who said hello. When his dachshund got old the dog developed a taste for a cup of tea and a biscuit whenever Dave made himself one, and Dave obliged because he was a old softy who had the look, demeanor and bearing of a kindly gnome. But then the dogs belly was threatening to brush the ground so the vet made him go on a diet.

Nyaw  I met Pterry once at a book signing in a dingy basement underneath a comic store in Melbourne Australia, he was lovely. His books were massively influential on me growing up. There was some really unfortunate bullshit in the British press a few years ago when there was a dumb argument about whether he would have supported trans rights, even though Terry's daughter and Neil Gaiman were both saying "We talked to him about it when he was alive and he was pro trans rights, also read the loving books you idiots he made it pretty goddamn clear". I'm not going to bother looking up the exact source but I remember reading a story or tweet or whatever of a trans person meeting Pratchett at a signing decades ago and introducing themselves with with their deadname at first (because they hadn't transitioned fully yet iirc?) but asking him to sign it to their chosen name. When asked why they told him they thought they were trans but were still in the process and that was what their true name was going to be. Terry replied along the lines of "Well, I'm honored to have been one of the first people to meet the real you."  Terry Pratchett isn't just one of my favourite authors. He's one of my favourite people, up there with saints like Mr. Rogers. Truly #blessed. I still use his audiobooks (Celia Imrie, Nigel Planer and Stephen Briggs are amazing, they really capture the tone and humor of the books. I don't know how I feel about the new ones yet, it feels overly produced and I don't like how they do the footnotes) to fall asleep to almost every night because they're engaging enough to quiet my ADHD mind, while also being familiar enough to be able to nod off to without missing too much, and every time I discover new jokes, new insights, have a new appreciation for clever or beautiful phrasing, etc. Watching his documentary on assisted dying broke my heart, knowing what was coming, but it was also really well done and beautiful.
