The Juan de Fuca plate is responsible for the cascade volcanism, while the Pacific plate is responsible for much of the California volcanism. The stuff further east(Arizona, New Mexico, maybe some of California?) is caused by the North American plate spreading, while Yellowstone is a hotspot i'll never understand the weather i assume yellowstone is pretty geologically unique? is there some place in chile or siberia that doesn't get much press here that's similar and if not why?

Minneapolis reached 74 today, breaking the previous record of 65. This is also the earliest for a 74+ temperature in the year, besting the previous record of March 16 (in 2012 when it reached 79).

Oglethorpe posted:what is global warming's effect on magma chambers? Someone either upthread or in the other weather thread suggested that melting glaciers would put pressure on existing magma chambers somehow. Maybe the crustal rebound from the now glacier-free areas puts additional pressure on existing crust over the chambers? I’m no geologist.
