Serious answer: vehicles all had 1 use per mission, no way to refill ammo, were pretty fragile, and they lit on fire after a certain amount of damage which would rapidly destroy them, so it was pretty easy to lose them early. there was a repair gun support weapon that you really wanted someone to have to keep them alive and did make it a lot more reliable to hang onto them for most of a mission, but that means someone out of the vehicle without an offensive support weapon. they were very vulnerable to tank-tier enemies, but only two of the vehicles had serious antitank options, and one of those could only shoot in a narrow cone in front of it. honestly they were pretty hard to use on high difficulties other than the APC with an anti tank cannon. However, HD1 let you fill your stratagem slots with as many copies of the same thing as you wanted, so you could do goofy dumb poo poo like bringing 4 mechs and calling in another as soon as you lose one.

part of their disadvantages were specific to HD1 mechanics (being big and stuck on the same screen as everyone meant it was very easy to have a stratagem or hellpod land on a vehicle and instakill it), but I think those will just be replaced by challenges specific to HD2 (actual complex terrain).

tokenbrownguy posted:

yeah, they were fine at easier difficulties but the single call in and general fragility made them a liability for groups doing more difficult runs.

plus you know... the weapons attached all had helldiver-portable versions that weren't single call in. a tank cannon is great and all but you can call massive air strikes on a whim.

their best use was as decoys. a tank or APC getting ripped up by bugs could be pretty useful in a clutch escape situation.

Thanks for the info , it's more or less what I imagined. The game design highlights a lot how we are fragile grunt soldiers, so as you indicate, I think mechs will be more fragile than what some people are thinking. This could be potentially the next ragefest of the community lol.
They will be able to hold a number extra hits in comparison with having Heavy armor, but still will be owned by rockets or mortars, and heavily damaged by streams of spewed bile, etc.

Sounds fun on eradication and maybe blitz but spending a whole slot on a single-use toy is probably not the play in regular missions.

I'm guess they'll probably be limited like laser bombardment instead of single use.

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE DEAD, MOTHERFUCKER?

It will greatly depend on how they end up functioning in conjunction with the other strategems. Strats in HD1 had generally across the board lower cooldown and that could be further decreased by boosters. Combined with the no limit on duplicates and you could play the game almost as a caster which makes a single use mech more of side grade or fun diversion.

With HD2 strats being less spammable maybe the mech finds a solid place even on high difficulty.

honestly i just hope we get lots of random battlefield mechs or extra planet bonuses so i can muck around with them for fun and keep my eagles

Can any Helldivers 1 player explain how the mech and tanks worked?

Because in the last three pages there are several people mentioning how surely, with mechs and poo poo the game will be easier, and the higher difficulties won't be that hard with them. But... I doubt it works like that, that they are a straight upgrade to players powers, otherwise the game will turn into a mech game with all players always selecting one.
Surely they will have important tradeoffs in comparison with other options, like speed, being able to be hostigated by hordes until it falls into the ground, limited ammo, only 1 call, etc. From what we have seen of how these devs work and balance stuff in the game, I doubt is going to be that simple as four players with a mech each owning Titans easily.

In Helldivers 1, you only got 1 vehicle call in per stratagem for the entire mission, and couldn't refill its ammo. Once you ran out, you're out.

Not sure if it's a result of armour being fixed/changed or something they did quietly but the environmental hazards(spiky plant things) have been one shotting us on hard difficulty :stare:

And the meteor showers look dope but I feel like on a hard run the rng of getting randomly murked by them is gonna feel pretty lovely.

Anyone else get the weird bug with those same spiked plants where you are hit, bleeding, and char keeps coughing + cant sprint yet you cant stim without taking legit damage from elsewhere? I assumed it was meant to be poison or something but hp never moved and I just whooping coughed around the map.

I've had that happen a couple times yeah, before the patch too. Don't know if it was related to the spiked plants for me though.

Yes. Having played extensively with the Maxed Sweatlords there are people who do this. Not everyone but they exist in great enough numbers some etiquette has been spread around.

1.) You must ask first to see if people agree, you do not call it down without asking
2.) Someone runs to extract to throw a resupply first thing so it's there during the end of the mission
3.) You take one supply unless someone else doesn't take one, then the remaining ones are first come first serve
4.) The host can do whatever they want gently caress you

I had to sit through some breathless lectures because a rambo was calling down supplies every single time for themselves solo across the map and the host died after running out of stims.

All it does is make people not use the resupply and it sits available after people who use it get kicked. The sweats want it ready when they need it. When they stop gunkataing because their meta weapon is dry the resupply better be available for them.

Help BIP learn gun?

I really don't feel any squishier than before tbh. It's confusing seeing others pretty upset about the armor changes. Heavy armor still isn't in a good place yet but I certainly don't think we're suddenly worse off than pre-patch? I think more tweaking is needed but I think that's already kinda what they said their intention is. As for armoured units, I feel like the only one that doesn't feel right is Chargers so if they change how they work I'll be happy. They just aren't very intuitive to fight, and their leg armor turning off during specific animations feels unintended. The bot armored units all feel like they're in a good place to me armor and health wise.

Happy that they're looking at spawn rates of heavies though? I don't mean for the highest difficulties, I mean for the lower ones. I had 2 bile titans spawn simultaneously seconds after we dropped on a difficulty 6 defence two days ago. One would spawn in to replace each one that died for the whole mission having two active at all times (we did not succeed). On a base destroy mission we had 7 hulks and 2 tanks waiting for us in a base all at the same time on difficulty 5 the other day (we did succeed that one and it kicked rear end).
Hard to see because I was being blown to poo poo but this was on a difficulty 4 escort:

I feel like that stuff isn't supposed to happen in mid-low difficulty. The balance of difficulties 1-6 has felt all over the place.

Aside from on defense type missions, 7 is currently just the right level of focus up sweat for me with 3 other friends if I want those purple sampies. I'm fine if they want to make 8 and 9 off limits to me unless I treat it like MMO raiding. It's their game and that's what having a range of difficulties is for.

Also fwiw, that blue light AOE for meteor showers is not at all visible in time on the surface of that moon like planet during "day" so uh be advised. That's probably where a lot of the confusion is coming from.

I didn't feel any squishier in light armor pre and post patch. Still can survive a charger hit, die to a titan hit, most often killed by getting slowed and swarmed by hunters. Player crits/headshots and would need to be removed and heavy armoy buffed some more to feel worthwhile.

The meteor warning circles definitely don't show up consistently on Fenrir on the highest graphics settings. The fact that the meteors themselves emit blue light so they're visible for half a second before hitting really confuses the conversation about this.

Heavy Armor should have reduced penalty from getting slowed IMO

You trade the stealthiness/stamina of light armor for being less susceptible to crowd control. It would also be a sort of nice alternative to the shield backpack as that is one of it's biggest advantages.
