Law Abiding Citizen is a really stupid movie but I was just thinking about how close it veers to being a horror movie but doesn't quite get there. I think of it a bit like action movie Saw.

Watching the Dentist duology, it’s genuinely surprising to me that they got multiple actors from the first one back for the sequel. The first one had the feel of one of those horror franchises where every entry has completely different credits.

The Big G's still got it! I haven't seen Poor Things yet but I'm glad it's sweeping as well. We don't often get horror actually getting recognition, and for all my many many qualms with the Oscars this year (and every year) that is pretty nice to see.

I'm not saying it's full-on horror because it's primarily a fantasy but it's got enough body horror bits combined with some of the production elements and the way the score is constructed that it crosses the bar for me. I mean it's a riff on Frankenstein.

I guess The Predator is fine if you, like, don't pay any attention at all. On the surface it has all the elements of a breezy Shane Black action comedy you might enjoy. But if you even so much as think about how these elements fit together, it all falls apart. You're better off watching Nice Guys and imagining that Matt Bomer is a Predator.
