Sorry but the fact that you’re all reasonably okay with mange tout (thank u jc) as the accompaniment to sausage and chips worries me. Sausage and chips rules. Some peas and gravy? Bit of sweetcorn and some tomato sauce? Absolutely. Beans? Well yeah that’s the ideal. But mange tout are dry and squeaky in an already dry and potentially quite squeaky meal.

Nobody has impugned sausages, chips or the combo of the two. It’s the mange tout that gently caress it up and tbh I expected better from you lot

I've never had mange tout with chips, but I can't see why it wouldn't work. I probably won't make it myself but that's more because hideously burnt sausage isn't my cuppa

I could see mange tout and chips with a bit of fish and some parsley sauce or something, but those sausages look squeaky and you can’t have two squeaky foods together without a lot of moisture it’s just not on

Halloumi is the go to squeaky food example I suppose. Sausages don’t actually squeak but they definitely can have that sort of glazed, slightly tough quality to them that gives them a degree of squeakiness. I’m trying to think of other squeaky foods now

Bubble and squeak?

Halloumi is the poster child for food that squeaks, though, can't argue there.

Old cheap sausages cooked badly would.
As from the 80s and before. The skin used was much thicker and if grilled too long it would be dry and it could give a mild flat squeak if bit or cut into.
Have childhood memories of having to chew the sausage skin as it like rubber.

My mum used to cook sausages on a high heat in a pan with no oil and they'd look exactly like that.

I thought that was normal for years. Explains why I like charcoal and will happily eat near burnt toast if my wife forgets the toaster.

Also second the mange tout being a bit weird but hell, it's green. In Yorkshire I've seen grown men flick the peppers and onions from fajitas off their plates like they were infectious horrors.

Also when my American wife first saw a packet of mange tout she asked what the hell kind of vegetable "Man get out" was. Which still makes us laugh years later.

I found this article in the Telegraph interesting (although probably not in the way that the author intended):

The Telegraph posted:

It may now be too late for the West, a corpse that cannot be galvanised

Elected governments no longer have the power or will to do what is needed to save our free societies

We are threatened by external and internal dangers. We see and feel them. Politicians, generals and diplomats sound the alarm. Our defences are weak. Our enemies are emboldened. Our streets are disorderly. What follows the stark warnings? Not much. Words do not announce action but cover inaction.

...

If we look round the world we see the same failings, and worse. The German government promises to transform its own defences, and nothing happens. Emmanuel Macron jumps from appeasing Putin to threatening him – a pantomime for his domestic audience. Donald Trump blusters that he would tell the Russians to do “whatever the hell they want”. Frivolity and cynicism mark this low, dishonest decade. Is any politician willing to tell their voters honestly what needs to be done? Would they now be believed?

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/03/11/too-late-for-west-corpse-that-cannot-be-galvanised/

The author correctly identifies that in the last few decades, the capacity of Western governments to do things has become severely curtailed, and nothing seems to work any more. He picks up on the Liberal ideology of the privatisation and dismantling of state institutions as being a key factor in this decline and then, just when I think he's about to launch into a denunciation of neoliberalism, he does a 180 degree turn and blames it all on woke lefties infiltrating positions of power and then breaking everything. I guess if you can't confront the ideology of the ruling class, then you have to blame someone?

Yeah I saw this yesterday. Initially thought it was silly but then it zoomed in on parts of the picture I never noticed were photoshopped, but clearly had been with bad blends and color.

I think she goes a bit off on one like suggesting they photoshopped a jumper on the girl when it's more likely she just put one on, but the odds of them all wearing the same outfit combinations (albeit with player 2 colour tweaks) for more than one day seems a bit suspect.

Plus releasing an additional photo of the back of her head as proof of life, its way beyond credibility. More interest than their family have gotten since Liz died and the vast majority of people would be satisfied by a 5-second video or something. Maybe they just think that's beneath them but even that is hilarious.
