Yeah, it's really noticeable with Cloud that all of his synergy skills work great at filling up other characters' ATBs. The giant cleave attack or bullet smash attacks are great for that, but for some other characters their synergy skills aren't spammable in the same way since they have a different function (like Tifa and Yuffie).

Putting the auto ability works really well for barret and tifa at the very least, swapping over to tifa and her already being charged up is nice. Barret automatically overloading at folks also owns

Harrow posted:Yeah I've stayed away from things like Auto-Weapon Ability because generally I want to be in control of when and how ATB is spent, especially in the absence of something like the gambit system to offer passive direction to the AI. I'm sure they're reasonably smart about things but I'd still prefer to just control that kind of resource expenditure on my own. I posted this about before but based on my short experiment the AI seemed a little too passive and this a problem when you want those synergy abilities asap. I think this is because the AI is programmed to use abilities in optimal situations but it can only use 4 shortcuts so that leaves out a lot of good abilities. Auto unique however is very good on most characters because triangle skills dont cost ATB and they AI will use them as much as possible

Having someone with auto-cast heal materia is very good and saved my bacon a lot because I am bad at paying attention to my health bars And Tifa having auto-ability so she'll boost her chi levels is great But yeah you should generally be cycling through characters

I almost never have to heal manually, if at all. All of Red XIII's Vengence Spenders are insanely good too especially once you get his Chilling Howl ability and build Vengence so quickly.

Augus posted:they traded a story about rebelling against higher powers that have treated people like worthless tools since time immemorial for just another story about rebelling against a higher power that has treated people like worthless tools since time immemorial (while wearing goth eyeliner) Yes, they traded an interesting, complex, multi-actor, multi-motivation story about rebelling against higher political, institutional, ultimately human powers that have treated people like worthless tools since time immemorial for just another boringstory about rebelling against a higher singular power that has treated people like worthless tools since time immemorial (while wearing goth eyeliner). I'm being a little glib but everything they build up in the beginning is cheapened by the final act. Everything, even the politics, comes down to one guy, who acts like a cliche and literally invokes the first game, who pulled all the strings and controlled everything you thought was a complex interaction of good and flawed people, and whose death sets it all right. It is a story about a protracted moral atrocity whose true horror comes from it being inflicted on humans by other humans, discarding the respect of their shared humanity, rather than by uncaring forces of nature or chance, but which instead reimagines it as coming from god, who never cared in the first place, and tells us all those people were actually good and normal until god brainwashed them, and that they are not responsible for the system they inhabit because it was all built for them by god. It is a story that spends a lot of time setting up complicated arrangements and explaining them and making sure we have the tools to understand how it works and how it changes between chapters, and then throws it all in the garbage.

The auto materias are good for most fights but in the end I fought best when playing it how I did in Remake: swapping characters whenever I was hit, in a long animation or recovery animation. Auto materia helps thing's like Tifa and Barret not need to be babysit too much but I never found the AI to work well with a full auto setup I did setup everyone with a full materia setup because it's easy enough to identify which materia benefits what character the most

Honestly I feel like it's inevitable that they'll end up remaking most of the series - 5, 6, and 8 would be incredible, 9 probably needs it the least since the art direction still holds up and wouldn't really suit the hyper-realistic approach anyway - though that fan project to remake it is gorgeous and retains the art style well enough, so it could definitely be done.

The Nibel region is such a relief after Cosmo Canyon. It's just kind of breezy and short, the enemies aren't a huge pain in the rear end and it's easy to knock out objectives quickly. I love its version of the world map music too. I'm getting ready to roll into Chapter 12, I think. Feels like the game is building towards a big climax and I'm definitely here for it. For all the random tiny complaints I have about the game, the overall package is pretty stellar and genuinely impressive in places. The wait for the next game will probably be unbearable.

I didn't really mind Cosmo Canyon, I thought it was pretty chill. The only real low point of the open world for me has been Gongaga. If anyone here has played Guild Wars 2, specifically the Heart of Thorns expansion, did you have flashbacks, too?

The only thing that actually matters is that you deal lots of damage to Odin and avoid as much damage as possible (people have peeked at the code to confirm this) debuffs still help in that they can increase the amount of damage you deal and decrease how much you take but that’s it.

Anecdotally on my three attempts, blocking stuff the first two times led him to doing his enrage (the second time I tried to cheese it with Phoenix reraise on multiple party members). The third time, I tried to actively avoid the hits entirely by pre emptively moving and that made him get into pressured state pretty quickly.
