I think the insane climax reveal stuff in 2 was hype as hell but XBC3s stuff is way more consistently good even if I think the last boss kind of was annoying. Never played the mini expansion they released though....

I like XB 2 because it seems like the mechanics were thought up by a crazy person, but it still sort of works.

3 is the best for a lot of reasons, like revealing Rex grew up to become the biggest chad in the universe(s)

It really needs to be said the combat system doesn't even give you all the tools until like 1/3rd of the way through the game much less needing the right combo of blades with the relevant abilities, and mastery of it can basically kill the endgame boss in 30 seconds. You can progress fine through the game only using some of the special features and the game really tries to cue you in to the special effects via the combat animations and battle cries.

I was on a train the other day and the young woman next to me played FFV emulated on her laptop. Reminded me how I played through it on an emulator almost 20 years ago and how it sparked my interest in JRPGs. It's $17.99 on Steam, lmao.

The original Final Fantasy has a special place in my memory for the experience of first opening the box and reading through the massive manual and the big fold out map with the bestiary printed on the back. It was all so BIG and I had no concept of a role playing game before then. Absolutely mind blowing for a young little chiller.

The Dragon Quest foldouts were all top tier. Pictures of all the gears and monsters (RIP Toriyama), big world map, all a good size. Plus the instruction manual came with like a gamefaqs walkthrough for the few few dungeons, lol. e: Bicyclops has a new favorite as of 20:34 on Mar 12, 2024 |
