Jedit posted:Who wants to take over, is the question. That chalice isn't so much poisoned as napalmed. Or are they just trying to force him into calling a GE because they know that however hosed they are now, it will be worse in six or nine months. I think whoever wants it will be thinking they can move their ratings a bit, get through the election with an inspiring Starmer style "at least I'm not as bad as that guy or that guy that came before him" message then inherit the aftermarth. I doubt it will go well.

Rachel Reeves announcing to the City that Labour are full-on adopting Thatcherism as economic policy, Jesus Christ. It's weird, my memory of the Eighties under Thatcherism was that it was a period of massive unemployment, hugely increased inequality and boiling anger at a cruel and callous government. But I guess I was wrong and it was a time of rising boats for all!

Thatcherism also meant selling off public assets for short term gain. Unfortunately we no longer have many public assets.

Can’t even imagine what you’re going through mate.

Nothing to see here. Whoever that guy is, he's also looks right at the camera in the first 2 or 3 seconds before quickly averting his gaze to carry on with his "we're posh plebs too" walkabout. Has a royal ever been photographed holding a shopping bag before? At this point I'm morbidly curious about what's going on mainly due to the lengths of this perplexingly fake-looking stuntwork as a response to her "disappearance" (plus, you know the breakdown of the usual British media blackouts and the like). Kinda like when one of those superinjunctions falls apart and you discover what a horrible person [celebrity a-z] are.

I like the folk sitting round the bench who don't even turn and look when the Prince and Princess of Wales casually stroll past a few feet away. I don't give a poo poo about the royals but if I was one of the first people to see Kate in public after almost 4 months I'd certainly turn and have a look.

Right to buy is now also changing so the councils don’t keep all the money from next financial year, 20-25% will now go to the government! Just the help council needs with many looking at bankruptcy.

She's missing all right, missing her husband Will who died at Christmas and the Kate rumours are to distract us from that. The lookalike isn't even bald.

Small Strange Bird posted:It's weird, my memory of the Eighties under Thatcherism was that it was a period of massive unemployment, hugely increased inequality and boiling anger at a cruel and callous government. But I guess I was wrong and it was a time of rising boats for all! Everything was a fire sale, all the money was moved to the top of the pyramid, and for everyone below middle class it was absolute poo poo. Thatcher's biggest innovation really was normalising not listening to poor people. The thing is, the current crop who grew up humping posters of her won't admit that's what happened, so by convincing themselves that wasn't what happened, they're able to believe it was the result of sensible financial decisions, and that it can be repeated now. And like with Trussonomics, when it fails it'll be because everyone didn't try hard enough, so now a visibly erect Wes Streeting gets to sell the NHS. The major difference is that in the 80s living off welfare was looked down on, but you could survive. You can't now. Thatcher was at least throwing out lifejackets for the people at risk of drowning from her rising tide, Reeves is more likely to be throwing stones and yelling 'I would simply not drown.' I’ve been enjoying watching how The Firm has completely bollocksed up their handle on the narrative, rather than the lurid theories, but, yeah, I think that’s her. Just looking a bit thinner than usual and without much makeup on. Though I’m very willing and hopeful to jump on the train again if someone can prove the Christmas decorations in the background weren’t still up the other day etc.
